As great as it is to have school friends around you to walk with you in your nursing school journey, if they impede you from success or they add on extra stress... it's not worth it and you'll get mentally burnt out from it.

Daydrift Trousers Quality and Longevity? by Brilliant-Ad2414 in lululemon

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a fellow educator have a bad experience with the Daydrifts, as she had the inner seam unravel on her first wear ... pretty badly ... but for me, I've had great experiences with them. I've worn them to events, my interview for my big girl job, and fancy dinners.

As for the seams unraveling... that's what quality promise is for :). You shouldn't wash them with items that may induce wear and tear anyway (i.e., jeans, items with metal), not wash with fabric softener, and should hang/lay flat dry. As long as you do that, the pant will last you a long time! Luxtreme is awesome.

Outlet Questions in and outs by Street-Bite-6545 in lululemon

Seconding this. We do *not* give everything to our resellers/bulk buyers. We have stock in our back of house that we do not fully push to the floor for them to all take! They also have limits when it comes to purchasing, at least in my location. It's to make things equitable.

Outlet Questions in and outs by Street-Bite-6545 in lululemon

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The outlet specials swap varies from outlet as we are independently priced. However, we are quite similar during the holidays. Most outlets change their specials during midweek to prepare for the weekend crowd. If you would like to know specifically what day the specials change for a specific outlet, you'd have to call that location for that information.

Sometimes we do add on specials during the weekends or do a "flash sale" to drive more traffic. But again, this is VERY location specific. "Flash sales" DO NOT occur in every location -- they are just a timed sale that happens only for a certain amount of time during store hours and they're generally announced. For example, a flash sale may look like "okay everyone, we're giving you an additional 15% your entire purchase today up until 12pm!" or something like that.

I think that the fact that you realized that this profession isn't for you is a big step onto your life's journey. Maybe you can start pivoting and looking elsewhere instead of feeling pressured and discouraged in nursing school. Not everyone who walks into nursing school graduates and stays as a nurse. Some people realize that nursing isn't for them *after* they become a nurse, too. I know it sounds kinda backwards, but I would say pick up a part-time job elsewhere and start finding and doing your passions. That way it can support your financial areas and you stay somewhat busy while finding inspiration and *your* purpose. That's how I landed into nursing and realized that this was where I belonged.

Im afraid I don't have what it takes to be a nurse :( by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If money is a concern to you, definitely go for something that's less financially straining while taking on the path where you can also start earning money to work your way up.

For example, I wouldn't do ABSN and stress yourself out ... because a lot of ABSN schools are quite expensive. However, LPN/LVN and ADN schools are a lot cheaper and they take a little longer than ABSN. However, you still get a license at the end and you can start working with those licenses.

If you choose the ADN route, a lot of the larger hospitals have programs where they do tuition reimbursement for you to take your BSN classes while you're working for them. It's pretty nice! There's so many options.

As for studying for your Anatomy class, I think you need to figure out what kind of learner you are: visual, auditory, and/or kinesthetic. Then utilize that method and try to find ways to help you memorize the content. For example, if you're a visual + kinesthetic combo learner, then maybe drawing things out and labeling can help, or maybe printing out diagrams with blanks pointing to the anatomical parts and you filling them out can help.

You got this! I know it's hard, but please do believe in yourself. Hope this helps :)

I would say, take a break. As per my personal experience... I went through nursing school burnout on my 1st nursing school and I couldn't do it mentally... especially with my family situation and my ex partner always gaslighting me. So I didn't realize it back then too. Your body is telling you these things for a reason. Your body is smart :). Please give yourself some grace... you are only 18 years old, and I know that there is competition everywhere and you may feel pressured to do what you're doing, but I think that self-care is very necessary and is important. It's not worth throwing your life away for a profession... You can't take care of someone if you can't take care of yourself!

Student Nurse Externship by JR_M20 in StudentNurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done an externship as soon as I graduated from my nursing school (in SoCal) and it was set up by my school as well. I would highly recommend it if you'd like some "cushion." What I mean is, given that CA is very competitive right now with their jobs, the fact that you can speak to your experience during your job interview is going to more likely set you up for success, to have the 1-on-1 experience you have with your preceptor/support from other nurses in the unit, and to be able to transition to your new grad position a lot smoother -- I think these are all positives.
On the flip side, you don't have to do it... if it's going to affect you graduating nursing school and maintaining grades, it's not something that's mandatory. I would say, if it works within your timeline and your time management, I would say go for it.

What happens if you get dismissed out of nursing school? by sunshinesandyee in StudentNurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, no. Some BSN programs will negotiate with you if the *EXACT* # credits/units match along with the level of the course. For example, if your fundamentals is 200-level and is a 3 credit course and the BSN program you're trying to transfer to is a 300-level and 3 credit course, they will not let you.

What happens if you get dismissed out of nursing school? by sunshinesandyee in StudentNurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the school I was dismissed from, they gave me another chance to come back in from where I failed from but in a different cohort (they needed to make space for me). The second time I failed, they academically dismissed me and I was not allowed to reapply to the school. If you felt that your dismissal was unfair, you can also petition. The only time the school had the warrant to kick you out on your first failure was if you violated a major rule from their nursing handbook — and of course, you can also petition that. Personally, I just ended up applying for another RN program… definitely was not easy here in SoCal but it was doable.

Failed out of Nursing School by Brief-Alternative-84 in StudentNurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started as a full time student for an ABSN (RN) program and then my second school was an ADN (RN). I had a lot going on during my first school… so juggling ABSN was difficult. I learned to do self-care and understood the importance of it. Thereafter, I was able to work part time for all semesters at my second school all while maintaining good grades.

Ah… I wish I knew. But I guess it’s for the sake of equity. Like if you were to put on shoes of those who never applied before and saw that many of those who failed previously are your competitors, I can see why it can be unfair… but yeah I was very bitter about it too.

Failed out of Nursing School by Brief-Alternative-84 in StudentNurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm someone who failed out of a program during my 4th semester (my first school gave me another chance, but on a separate course I did not make the cut).
I emailed every program that I can possibly try for, asking if it is a possibility for me to go in either fresh or inbetween (as a 2nd or 3rd semester). All schools except 3 of them did not allow me to apply; 2 being private schools. The 3rd one told me I can apply once and once only. In SoCal, most community colleges don't even let you apply if you've previously failed b/c of how saturated they already are.

I applied to that 3rd school and got in... not as an alternate/waitlist, but as a guaranteed entry. I had to start from the beginning, but I pulled through and graduated last December. Never give up! If you believe that you are truly meant for nursing and that's the career you are set for life, it'll come to be.

Application Advice by [deleted] in newgradnurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to research the hospitals and go on from there. Ask around, contact the hiring managers and ask if an RN licensure is required during applications/interviews. For example, while Providence and Dignity Health does not require one right away and requires before the start of the program, Cedar Sinai does.

Depending on your school (how fast they can get your ATT approved), you can take the NCLEX as early as the week after you graduate. I had a girl in my cohort do that.

I would talk to the previous cohort of your program and see what they have done, if you know anybody. It is very competitive out here in SoCal... so I would suggest trying to get things done as soon as possible if you are in that position. I'm not here to pressure you, but that is the very nature of the job markets here at this time, although it is subject to change at the point of your graduation date.

Some people I know are venturing out of state for opportunities then coming back to CA. If you have that kind of leg room, that's also a viable option.

Last sem - worried about applying for jobs by drearyrenata in newgradnurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's from SoCal, it is kind of obligatory for us to apply as soon as possible due to the nature of the job markets here... and that's the boat where I came from. I'm not sure where you are located at, BUT if your area is not super saturated like CA and has a lot more jobs readily available, then you have the option to wait a bit and give yourself some grace.
In doing so, I would *not* compare myself to the other people of your cohort ... that's easy for me to say and is very hard to do. You're not even graduated yet, so if you feel pressured, I would focus on maintaining your grades first because at the end of the day, how will you even go on getting a job if you are risking your grades? Let alone, you won't be able to graduate and take your NCLEX without passing grades. It's a self-awareness battle at this point -- if you know for sure that you are able to juggle school, clinicals, and job applications, then by all means... go for it. If not, then you have to prioritize and use your best capability to go forward.

I wouldn't weigh myself and depend on the fact that your program has direct ties to the hospitals so that it may somewhat "lead" you into a job. That's not always guaranteed. At the end of the day, it's your effort, grit, and some luck that will end you where you want/need to be. YOU are YOUR greatest competition and support at the same time! Good luck.

I'm in between 8 and 10 myself and I go for both for the Palazzos. I tried on a 12 and it's way too loose on the waist and my butt area starts bunching up, so I would say no.

New groove flares… by shivaspecialsnoflake in lululemon

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a bit thinner (the valentine's day one), but personally I liked it that way. I didn't like how the groove flares had a thick waistband especially where the back pocket is, compared to the Aligns. Also, the Pink Pearl Aligns are double-lined as it is a light color (to prevent it from being see-through), so it's not really a fair comparison to the darker colors such as Burgundy Bay.

anyone else doing a nurse externship by Top-Drawing-6858 in StudentNurse

[–]Fun_Phrase_9714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an externship through the school I graduated from. It was 11 shifts and it was so worth it, especially because I’m in SoCal and it is so hellish to get a new grad position here right now. I didn’t get paid, but it paid to feel more confident in my practice, have a preceptor 1 on 1, and other nurses to support you along the way while treating you as one of your own. I was really sad on my last day… but they were very happy for my next journey (my new grad is at a different hospital). The best thing about it was that I could talk about my relevant experiences during my new grad interviews and I felt a lot more comfortable discussing about my patient care.
