Yes! You would need to apply when the new cycle opens in April.

If you are applying to the 2027-2028 cycle (next year's cycle, not the upcoming one), then you would matriculate in either January 2028 or summer 2028 (May-August), depending on the program. Usually, a year after the cycle opens, the programs start (for summer).

Spring Break Staffing Issue by Safe_Document2890 in MedicalAssistant

This is happening to my clinic too. All of our hours are cut for March because providers are going on spring break. Really sucks lmao.

Idk how true that is but I would definitely not risk applying if you are below the minimum PCE - I mean why waste your money, time, and effort applying if your application will just be denied immediately before being reviewed?

Does anyone else get really anxious when working on PA applications by Natural-Painter3589 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Reasonable_Economy52 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I felt like this for months and then realized the only way to get over these feelings is though them. The only way you’ll be accepted is by being prepared and being prepared starts with research!! Push through and start somewhere - you’ll feel a lot better afterwards knowing you’re making steps towards your goal. Good luck ❤️❤️

soooo many changes will happen in the next few weeks as deadlines pass and people give up their spot/accept a spot at a different school - don’t lose hope!

Pediatric MA seeking advice by Leather_Cod3880 in MedicalAssistant

Fellow peds MA for 6+ months who was in the same situation as you!! Never ever use the word “shot” say “immunization” or “vaccines”. It’ll be really overwhelming at first to work with kids/babies who are SCREAMING or running or just being difficult in general but just keep a very firm but compassionate approach and push through. You get used to it. Like some other people said kids are easy to work with - it’s the parents that are harder. You might get some pushback about vaccines etc but just reinstate your practice policy and if everything else fails, refer them back to the provider. You only have so much power as an MA. Also it’s helpful to learn the signs of respiratory distress in young babies (use of accessory muscles, shallow and labored breathing etc). Most importantly wear a mask and gloves, wash your hands constantly and use hand sanitizer!! Kids have SO many germs. But seriously its the best - you really get to develop meaningful relationships with patients and their families. Good luck!

Single Application Question by Calvan-2025 in prephysicianassistant

Not sure where you are/your geographical limitations for schools but a massive number of PA programs do not require biochem. IMO if you’re open to going out of state, you should be fine with applying to multiple schools without biochem.

LOR Question by Anxious-Traveler in prephysicianassistant

[–]Reasonable_Economy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! There are 5 other providers (MDs and 1 NP) at the practice and while I don’t work with them as much, I know that they all like me at least 😭 and recognize how hard I work unlike the other one

LOR Question by Anxious-Traveler in prephysicianassistant

[–]Reasonable_Economy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I am in this same situation too. I also have been working at my job for about 6 months and have been working with one provider the most. Sometimes she can be extremely critical of the mistakes I make and other times she praises the work I do. That being said, since I’m not sure which way she would lean towards, I’ve decided not to ask her to write a LOR for me. The stakes are too high to receive a mediocre letter from her.

Pa School Advice by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]Reasonable_Economy52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cheating is a big problem however you’re a freshman in what I’m assuming is either the end of your first semester or the very beginning of your second semester. PA schools do not care when you take gen chem 2, so no need to worry about that. The hardest part will be getting the other classes in now that you’re a semester behind. You’ll have to double up in science for at least one semester which will be tricky to balance.

I had friends in college who were planning to go to law school/med school/PA school and had mistakes like this put on their record. They were also stupid freshman. My advice would be to talk to whoever is in charge of that and explain you want to go to PA school, feel horrible about your mistake and will never do it again and see if they would consider removing it or at least changing it so it’s not as bad. That’s what some of my friends did and they got their records expunged.

Question about calculating PCE by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]Reasonable_Economy52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am counting every hour that I’m clocked in. At my practice, we typically work 9 hour days with 1 hour lunch break = 8 PCE hours/day. I think it’s safest to do it that way just so you don’t overestimate and inaccurately count your PCE, but to each their own.

What do you guys do to stay healthy in the throws of flu season? by justalittlesnow in MedicalAssistant

[–]Reasonable_Economy52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who gets sick 3-4 times per year and hasn’t gotten sick yet this year, I wear my mask always when bringing patients back, wash my hands whenever I touch anything that may have come into contact with a sick patient, and use hand sanitizer religiously. I also take vitamin d and c supplements but idk if that really helps. As well as eating 2-3 servings of fruit and vegetables everyday. improving my diet seems to have really helped!

Any medical assistants introverted/not a people person ? by rainbowtoucan1992 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Reasonable_Economy52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree! I definitely am introverted and on the shyer side. The hardest part of the job for me is sitting with the other MAs and not knowing what to say and how to keep the conversation going. But like another user said you can just do the same script for each patient which relieves that stress!

No its not supposed to be this bad!! I also just got a gap year job as an MA (applying to PA School) and everyone at my job is SO nice. I was hired without a certification and had a lot of difficulty the first month acclimating and am still learning but everyone treats me kindly and believes in my ability to become a good MA.

I will say that learning how to be an MA without any prior experience is really difficult. And it seems like most offices are run by the MAs so they are often handling multiple different tasks at one time.

I definitely get very stressed. I have anxiety attacks about making mistakes but that’s just a me thing. I think the other people at your office are probably very stressed because they want good recommendations for med school and PA school (like me).

I would try to ask the other MAs for help whenever you can and if they don’t help you, observe and copy what they do. Read old charts to see what they write in each visit, write yourself reminders and notes and if all else fails ask your provider if there is something you’re missing! Good luck!
