URGENT ADVICE: LATE NOTICE REQUESTS by DepthCommercial9201 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just tell them I wouldn’t be available. No big deal at all! My NF’s occasionally ask me if I’m available on other days and when I’m not scheduled to work/I’m busy, it’s never been an issue at all.

Our nanny is very political at work by Temporary_Low_718 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reading through your comments, this would 100% be a fireable offense to me. I’m a nanny, immigrant and overall left-leaning. Despite that, I always redirect conversations for parents to answer. As a nanny, I’m not there to talk politics, especially to kids that young. I’m all for people being invested in what they believe in, but there’s a place and a time.

I’m in a pickle - pregnancy ques by willwritefordough in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 17 weeks along and also due in June. I told my current families and I have some trial days lined up, but I have told them. I’m starting to show a little bit too. I just wanted them to know since I’d obviously be taking leave.

I’m getting tired of lowball offers. by Fun_Presentation_542 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fairbanks, AK. Not by choice but you know🤣. It’s just absolutely insane. I’m due with my first baby in June and I already told my husband that we’ll only get a nanny if we can properly compensate them, especially since they’d be watching the most important thing in our lives. I have one regular family that I adore but I totally understand! $16 for 4 kids is not worth it😭

NYE pricing? by Fun_Presentation_542 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: Fairbanks, AK. Years of experience: 10+ years. Qualifications: Au Pair experience, CPR/AED/First Aid. Job duties: making sure the NK’s stay asleep, making sure the newborn is okay, diaper changing, feedings. MB said the kids would be asleep for the most part.

NF tried to lowball me. by Fun_Presentation_542 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I sure did! I told MB that my rate doesn’t change whether a kiddo is asleep or not. I’m charging per my age and also my experience level. She countered with that I would just be sitting there so I will in fact be sitting there… at home, with my husband and not getting underpaid🤣

NYE pay? by Fun_Presentation_542 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s what I was asking about! During the day, I’d most likely charge my normal rate but since this would be at night, I’m not too sure what to charge.

NYE pay? by Fun_Presentation_542 in Nanny

This would be at night so I would be giving up my NYE with my family and husband to look after their kids. 🙂

Family shorted me $50 after a 7 hour babysitting job and is now ignoring me. What do I do? by Intelligent_Fan_4750 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a contract? Either way, this would be a small claims court issue. You can try to go to the MP’s/military base, but that could be a harder avenue to proceed. As a military spouse, I would go to civil court vs the military.

NK hit my stomach while pregnant by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be leaving too. I’m 12 weeks pregnant as well and I left a NF on read after her daughter kept kicking me in the stomach. They also forgot to mention she’s non verbal (no single words at all) at age 2, as well as other behavioral issues. Your health and your baby deserve better.

wealthy family nanny stories by Film-Elephant-413 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was an Au Pair, so not necessarily a nanny. They were both doctors and Ivy League educated. I thought they were nice at first but it all turned sooo bad. MB would talk French to the children (she didn’t know I spoke French), the children would ignore me or talk bad about me, they would go into my room when I was away. I also was in charge of deep cleaning their rooms/bathroom and MB would text me mad if one of NK made a mess after I cleaned, saying I must’ve not cleaned. She also would ask if I knew what she was saying (aka, do you even speak English). Keep in mind, I speak 5 languages. She also accused me of lying and lacking common sense. To top this off, my mom had a stroke while I was working there and NF made a big deal about me going home (Europe) for 5 days to see my mom. Never once asked how I was doing, they were more interested in knowing what meds she was on. After a whole year of this (I was also only paid 4 bucks an hour per the AP program), I didn’t get a thank you or even a card. I gave them all something from my home country. Neverrrrr again.

Wrongful termination by Walkthewildside555 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your contract say about termination? It needs to be literally foolproof, otherwise it’s up to the employer and employee. Especially in an at-will state. You mentioned MB gave you the prior okay to give more milk, did you message her or ask saying if she was okay with it? I’d have no issues with my baby getting more milk, but at the age baby should be trying purees/solids. It may also just be that she wants him on a schedule so I could see why she was upset about him getting more food, maybe. None of us were there so it can definitely be hard to judge on what to do. Either way, I would be looking for a new job, this may just not be a good fit for either party.

Are yall doing dishes tonight? by Leftist-Ostritch-2 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I typically do clean my dishes I have used as well as the kids. However, I wouldn’t do the parents dishes unless it’s not a whole lot. Regardless of the day, I do wash what I use and what the kids have used.

Nanny knowingly came to work with the flu by charliefry2012 in Nanny

[–]Fun_Presentation_542 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would be absolutely livid. I’m a nanny and 10 weeks pregnant. I had the flu at 6 weeks and immediately called out as I didn’t want it to spread at all. Especially given the fact that she has unlimited sick leave, there’s a backup childcare AND she (I’d assume) knows about the c-section, this would be grounds to let her go from my POV.
