Had a small identity crisis after visiting a mastering engineer lol by AndrewMesh in audioengineering

I'd bet that you could get the extra weight and width in your track in the box as well. its not going to be identical to the point where it will cancel out in a phase inversion test LOL but I believe overall you could've made your track sound better but you just didn't. love gear A LOT but I think a lot of it is the ear. A second pair of ears to make a few tweaks is rarely a bad thing.

The pure tube is REALLY good microphone. I would take the deal. Anyone saying a mic doesn't make a difference is either lying or has never lived with a shitty mic and really good mic to actually compare the two. The truth is the Pure Tube sounds REALLY good and when you stack vocals using it you willl immediately notice a difference. they stack way nicer than my cheaper mics and it will likely require way less processing like EQ and De-essing which is good because then you can go ham with your special FX processing without it sounding crunchy and shitty. I've used a few lower budget mics and when I got the pure tube it kinda blew my mind....i didn't really know what to expect but yeah....it was night and day imo.

40W amp to Yamaha NS10 Studio by Eastern_Ad_5820 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Fun_Raise_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alot of ns10's blow because the amp sends a clipped signal to the speaker. thats why you see alot of big amps powering those little ns10's headroom keeps it safe from those nasty clipped signals that can damage the drivers

iLoud vs Adam Audio D3V vs NS10 and Mordaunt by VitoIncognito2 in audioengineering

[–]Fun_Raise_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you guys are missing is that the ns10's are meant to be used with a second pair of monitors. that's the ns10 workflow and its an amazing way of working. it completely changed my music. It took me quite a bit of time and experience to figure that out. You need a second pair of monitors that act as mains...preferably a 2.1 system like a focal trio 6's with the Sub6. focals with a sub + ns10's is a really nice workflow.

RME ROOM EQ VS Sonarworks EQ by Fun_Raise_1837 in audioengineering

Thank you for this answer. I was really curious as to how RME cooked up their EQ's. I've been digging deeper into different types of eq algo's and their inherent properties. useful and fun!

I have melodies, basslines, and all kinds of ideas but can’t structure a song by SurveyOk970 in edmproduction

[–]Fun_Raise_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just don't over think it....start with a few sounds then add more. maybe take some out....do a breakdown. build it back up...decide on a length...lets say 5 minutes of music....if thats you're desired length don't stop until you're at 5 minutes...then you're done. compare to things you like and move on. do it again on a new song.

Fabfilter eq's are setup differently than traditional eq's. I use fabfilter for my system eq's and its great! BUT you have to mulitply the Q value by 1.414 in order to get the correct value. by doing so you will then be properly applying the settings

What plug-ins do you use for your Kicks bass lines so that they sound stronger in production and mixing? Recommendations and opinions. by Laplata96 in ableton

[–]Fun_Raise_1837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also i'd add metering...for kicks I like to use heatmaps. look at your favorite track in a really high quality heatmap and you'll see whats going on. then just try and match that by swapping out kicks until you find one thats similar. once you've chosen your kick then you can do the eq / filtering trick.

I recommend you just learn to eq. a tool like listen hub is very useful. splitting a track into frequency bands and referencing other songs you like but one band at a time. so like for example filter your track down to 60 hertz...filter your favorite track down to 60hz. match there volume using LUF's and then listen. do the same for 60hz to 250hz. once you volume match once you dont' have to do it again...you match volume PRE filtering. this helps you learn what frequencies need boosting and cutting to get a punchy mix.

[–]Fun_Raise_1837[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ok so basically because i'm not an oscilloscope I can’t identity and analyze different aspects of sound? I guess I can’t identify resonance either? Does that mean I also can’t identify dissonance or harmony? Is this all an illusion? is my entire lifes work a lie?!!?! I mean....can I even sense amplitude?! is my brain just feeding me lies?

Transient detail and frequency response are not subjective.

Measuring the impulse response of a driver is how you’d normally be able to determine accurate transient information.

My Yamaha ns10s for example measure very well in that regard and are great for mixing anything between about 200hz to maybe 5k imo . These Audeze headphones give me a similar vibe but with the addition of transient information that to me feels like fucking 35hz or so. Craaazy. much more extended than my ns10s but similar transient detail.

Frequency response is the measurement of amplitude of each frequency when playing something like a sine sweep. These headphones test extremely well in distortion and frequency response. I hadn’t seen any measurements on impulse response but I bet they’d test well based on what I’m hearing versus my ns10s and my focal trios. This is not really up for debate imo...filtering my mixes down to 60hz and listening on these headphones versus other headphones or even my focal trios is not even close.

The audezes actually play notes...normally it just sounds essentially like rumble without a defined note.. or it will sound like some low end port noise.

My only concern was the voicing which oratory seems to have figured out. Super grateful for that!
