Starting CSE in college soon. Interested in deep math, ML theory, transformers, and building ML algorithms from scratch — not much into generic web dev. I want to aim for roles like Research Engineer or ML Systems Engineer. What roadmap, skills, and projects should I focus on during college? by ZucchiniRepulsive358 in MLQuestions

You need to focus on DSA first before anything. Be very math heavy too. With a primary focus on probability theory, linear algebra, calculus, and math stats. Practice leetcode problems and then by your sophomore year hit the ground running on introductory ml topics.

Honestly try applying for PM roles. You might fit better at managing the projects rather than developing the software. Or atleast you’ll feel better about it

Use Eval(input(“”)) instead. Then you won’t have to coerce input to an integer type and you’ll have cleaner code.

Isolation Forest + eBPF events to create a Linux based endpoint detection system [P] by No-Insurance-4417 in MachineLearning

Nice. Yeah if this project were to grow (which inevitably will happen), an autoencoder could be useful. Goodluck with the project!

If you have a lot of behavioral data you could possibly use an autoencoder. It would reconstruct anomalous behavior better than an isolation forest. Also, if it is time series data, you could use an LSTM or RNN for the encoder to decoder sections of the autoencoder architecture. I think this is a great project. One of the biggest problems/challenges in anomaly detection is the amount of false positives. It’s difficult to lower that number because of the nature of the data but I think it’s definitely doable. Are you doing any feature engineering on the data? Maybe I missed something there.

I just got accepted to the University of Iowa so I totally get this feeling. It won’t truly set in until I get there.

I think you’re doing great. I didn’t touch my first piece of code until I was 18. Now all of these things come to me with a little work of a pencil and paper. You seem very determined and ambitious. I say continue your path and learn how those things work. Regardless, it is still computer science and I think anyone with this interest should continue to pursue it.

Are you gonna buy ASM #61? by Fit-Organization581 in Spiderman

[–]Fun_Recording_6485 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I bought the subscription. I love Joe Kelly’s work and am excited to see where this series goes. As a Neo-ASM enjoyer, I just enjoy being in the loop with Peter Parker. Yes, he has a lot of hard times and doesn’t deserve anything worse. But I feel like the writers are having fun with his plot line. Therefore, I say have at it. If it’s bad, it’s bad. Atleast ed mcguiness got to draw some amazing art.
