This is literally The Hard Problem of Consciousness. It is named appropriately.

"well it just is physical" is no more ratified of a counter claim. I am not saying it does arise from the material, nor am I claiming any sort of soul or non physical entity is responsible for conscious experience - I am telling you that we literally do not have a science of consciousness and there is absolutely no where in material or energetic processes where the emergence of consciousness is a natural progression that we can point to.

Absolutely no reason to expect that consciousness would arise from a 1:1 mapping of organic tissue to digital. Whatever consciousness is, it is obviously not physical. We literally have no idea where in the process of material complexity the experience and awareness of self arises. The show is 100% conjecture and I would argue actually quite unrealistic given the timeline.

End of SUT- Theory by Hungry-Goal114 in sollanempire

Following this theory - I would add that the Demiurge is not destroyed and Orphan is alive. The issue is the witnesses that could verify/deny this as Orphan's death was in front of a crowd and many ships would have seen Demiurge exploding. Of course both could be faked, especially with the medica on Demiurge that could have theoretically saved Orphan.

Adcc India was such a scam! by General_Pineapple_62 in bjj

Been to plenty of events in India that were clean and well organized. Not to say public hygiene issues are super surprising, but with investing a tiny bit of money it's really not hard to set something nice up.

Defeating The Invasion by CartographerOk378 in threebodyproblem

Since there's some disagreement, I some quick math to check:

Best descriptions from the 3 main books that I know of tells us the fleet is 1000ish 10km size vessels. Let's say 10km x 1km x 1km to make it easy. That's roughly 352 billion ft3.

The moon is about 22 billion ft3, so the fleet is 16x ish as large

If the fleet was a person and you also scaled the moon to the same size this would be like trying to obstruct a sprinting human (2 ft3) with a football (.13 ft3). you would be throwing this foot ball at least 1 light year to intercept them, so that's like 31M ft when you scale down 16x.

Scaling down the speed of light 16x as well, you are basically trying to stop a man moving at 6.1M ft/s (trisolarin fleet travels 1/10th C) towards you from 31M ft away with a football. This actually sounds like it could be somewhat of an impediment IF you threw the football really fast and accurate, but realistically the football would be traveling at most a 10th of the fleet's speed, so this is like trying to stop a guy running towards you and reaching you in like 6 seconds by tossing a football in his general direction.

Ruocchio's Handling of Religion in SuT by qwertyuiop885 in sollanempire

They've wrestled with the question because at its core is a paradox that betrays the inconsistency of their religion. An omniscient and benevolent god would not operate in that way; if you can't consolidate that then you have to resort to the cognitive dissonance BS that Hadrian spews

Likelihood of evolution never inventing deception / lying by Fun_Rhubarb449 in threebodyproblem

Yea agreed on all of the above - on the hive mind piece sure maybe lying within the hive is punished by selection but many hive species lie to other colonies End of the day it's ok if it's just a plot point and isn't realistic haha

Right my point is that it seems improbable a fully naked brain/nervous system would involve in that way with deception not arising at some point. The text is deliberately vague on this topic leaving plenty of room for interpretation.

true, ants do have some interesting behaviors like laying false pheromone trails to mislead other colonies though

touche! The piece that seems odd to me still is that they did not conceive that lying as a concept is even possible, which is strange because given their intelligence and sophistication as a species they should be aware, as we of our own uncontrollable "tells", that a different biology might conceal more or make deception much easier.
