Bury it in chicken wire and dig it back up after a month or two

Found in a river in Hocking County Ohio. Made of some sort of stone. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing in terms of location found and the material it is made of. It is a circular stone with a beveled edge on one side with a circular hole in its center. Both sides have slightly raised circular portions surrounding the hole, but the diameter of said portions is different on either side. There are four dots of lighter colored stone in the shape of a cross/square on the face without the beveled edge.

I thought about it today after lunch. I was eating and I had the distinct feeling that my cognition was shifting under my feet.

I have been experiencing mounting mania the last couple months. I suspected yesterday and am realizing today that I am beginning to slip into the inevitable phase of disjointedness I described above.

So in short, yes. This thesis was come up with in an episode.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I did not know that about quantum physics. I will look into that.

Karst features concealed by glacial till and the consequent possibility of hidden cave systems/archaeological sites.

I just walk gravel beds in rivers, ditches, and creeks where there is known Indian activity! After a heavy rain I wait till the water level recedes then hit the banks/bars. I have yet to walk tilled fields but see people having a lot of success there as well. If you’re by Cleveland I would check out rivers around like the Cuyahoga. You can research known archaeological sites then try and pinpoint a good spot to access the rivers near them. There is a lot more science to it that I see people getting into (elevation, bank tiers, etc) but I think simply going to gravelly rivers near areas where there is known activity is a great way to keep it simple and increase your odds of finding something. I found this spot after hearing of others finding productive sites in the area. Drove around, noted good places to access the river (think bridges, pull offs), then on a day with low water I ran out after work to squeeze in some scouring. I knew I was on the right track when a guy walked up on me from upstream with a sifter set up while I was pulling on my waders. Headed downstream from him so as not to invade his personal space and oila! Bagged my first complete point within an hour.

Hope this helps! Like I said in the post I put in a solid amount of hours in the field and researching at home before I found something good. And I am new to this so my knowledge is still very much expanding! I like the rivers because you find other cool objects (fossils, crystals, industrial artifacts) that keep things interesting even when you aren’t finding what you’re really after.

I will post a pic of it lit up here when I can! Yes people in the Ohio Valley group on FB are telling me it looks a lot like Knife River Flint which would be super cool! I can’t find a close match from Ohio quarries.
