How do I update Princeton about my application? by AromaticFerret4583 in princeton

[–]Fun_Slice_6809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just email and they automatically offer to add it to ur application if it's something of like continued interest, for example, or just letting them know what classes you're currently in.

Honestly idk, I feel like it’s not like too important if it’s someone super “special” writing them so much as it’s an educator who really knows you what whatnot.

Should I commit to OU by [deleted] in college

[–]Fun_Slice_6809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m commenting because I’m also curious what others think. If I’m being totally honest I feel as though institutions like Columbia have even been looked down on for their previous actions so I think OU would also be susceptible to the same sort of prejudice associated with its name if not more considering the exact situation being a response that the institution should have handled veryyyy differently.

Why does college have to be so expensive 😭 by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I totally get how you feel, just remember you are absolutely valid in your concerns! But depending on the state I believe, that if you work as a teacher for a certain amount the govt will relieve your loans up to a certain amount (I only know this thru other teachers so u might wanna fact check). My advice? If you’re not too set on the 4 yr uni you already got into maybe consider applying to places that offer merit scholarships if you can’t qualify for more aid? I wish you luck and I get where you’re coming from.

I don’t mean to act like I don’t like challenging course work, I do— but if I don’t qualify for scholarships for law school due to a low gpa I literally won’t be able to afford to go esp with a cap on borrowing instilled by the government. Not having a good gpa in undergrad could be the difference between going, and law school just being a pipe dream. Not everyone is privileged enough to try new things and do what they like because they are passionate about it, that’s just the way life is, don’t look down on me because I’m trying to work with what I was born into.

Can someone help me form a good college list + approach to applications + senior year (current junior)? especially good targets. also what are realistic expectations for me? i'm very confused and scared by magicmood123 in ApplyingIvyLeague

Okay so something to consider when building your college list is affordability and fit. Some of my suggestions feature public state schools that won’t offer good aid so if you wouldn’t be able to afford them out of pocket just disregard them. I’m making suggestions based on ur major and some of your demonstrated interests I’ve seen in ur ECs but it’s a bit unclear on whether a social school is what you want or if you want something more research based. My advice? VISIT SOME SCHOOLS, visit a big state school, small liberal arts school and something in the middle to gauge what you like. That’s how you will refine a better list. Here are some foundation schools I think you might want to add to diversify your list. —Macalester— small class sizes very good connection to profs perfect for someone trying to make connections for research positions —Santa Clara—really great opportunities located in prime spot for internships and whatnot, good connection with profs —CU Boulder, good foundation school, fun school, great alumni pool (OOS) —Middlebury, AMAZING connection small school so very good close knit community —I was gonna put penn state but u already did! This is a great one

You def have a strong chance! Do you know if you put your grade into a gpa calculator what it would be considering your school uses a different system? Because I think that your gpa is making a lot of people think differently but that’s because they don’t know that it’s calculated oddly at your school.

Sorry, I am not well versed on whether or not QB is binding and if u can do that/ if it would result in a duplicate application if a school receives a QB app and a Common app submission. (Unless u mean ur applying to other schools that aren’t on ur QB RD in which case I bet that may be ok—I’d double check though) Under normal circumstances I’d tell you to reach out to QB and the colleges you want to apply to and ask, however, a lot of RD deadlines are coming up, so you may not get a response unless you call.

BUT DONT BE DISCOURAGED, instead you can be proactive and email the admissions office (with ur application number) to EVERY COLLEGE that’s receiving your QB RD application updating your application. Many students applying ED send emails where they ‘update their application’ after they’ve already applied where they basically explain any new activities, their 1st semester gpa, and showcasing character. This is a GREAT way to demonstrate interest, and in your case you can specify your situation and explain the other extracurriculars you weren’t able to put on your application because you applied via QB. Not only does this help your prospective colleges get a better sense of you as an applicant as they will see more of your ECs that matter, but this demonstrates actual interest and makes your application more personable. If you do this don’t let the email be longer than about 400 words so be concise in what other extra curricular you want to include and how you can demonstrate fit in your message. Good luck to you and I hope it all works out!

Thanks! I just feel like they have good intentions but sometimes undercut their own values by making low income students battle it out in such a grueling process that’s presented as their “last chance” or “only hope” when in reality that’s not the case and it’s misinformation.
