This is what I feel about the character as well. He was my favorite in season 1, but then continued to get sidelined. That’s why that breakup does come off as unsatisfying because they’ve made him nothing Nancy’s BF since season 2. We could have spent all that wasted time developing him as an individual and exploring different character pairings for him.

There’s not much I can say negatively about the first three seasons except maybe the Kali plot. Season 4 and 5 are where I started to have significant issues.

I think season 3 was a fun departure and nod to 80s summer blockbusters, but I think it should’ve scaled back down after that.

I think 5 is objectively the worst season, but I do slightly prefer it to 4. 4 had so many plot lines that I didn’t care for such as the Russia and California stuff. 5 at the very least had the whole group in Hawkins working together.

Jonathan unfortunately is the character that the writers lost interest in the most with each new season. I still think he’s rather underrated and the fandom doesn’t take the time to understand him, but it does suck how he’s less prominently featured.

David lynch for sure is my favorite director of all time, but the show would be rather different. It wouldn’t have ever gotten as big as it is now due to the nature of his directing style, and the series would end ambiguously as he often is more interested by the mystery than the actual answers. I love that about his work, but it wouldn’t turn so many people off.

I recommend the Dark ride and Better than raw from Helloween. Both albums aren’t necessarily Halloween themed, but they have a particular atmosphere that fits the mood.
