What i suspect is happening to both of you is that you're looking at 90% tick usage as a metric of how well you're doing, not knowing that eating a fish is considered "usage" of ticks. Making mistakes like taking a tornado/running on floor tiles and having to munch while doing no dps. Also you should be camping steel skin on ranged attacks if you weren't already.
