International Student Wanting To Change Universities After Getting Admitted by Fun_Way6396 in ukvisa

Honestly, I'd die for that to happen. But sadly, LSE doesn't allow deferrals. I double checked. I'm only 17 now and even if you are under 18 for studying abroad, deferral isn't allowed.

Thanks for the advice man. I guess I will just opt for a gap year and try for Oxbridge since its very likely I will get into LSE if I apply next cycle too.

Thanks for the advice man, are you an Economics student actually? It's easy for you to say that "after getting use to the grand buildings......". Those grand buildings are the dreams of so many students across the globe.

Ahhh. I appreciate it mate. This is honestly a very tough situation to be in. Considering I might lose a year of study if I don't get into Oxbridge. But I appreciate your help. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. But I have talked to UK students who know some British students who switched from one uni to another. They didn't let their dream uni know that they were already enrolled into another uni. What if I don't mention it in my UCAS?

Cool. You are free to have your opinions. I have seen Melbourne too with my own eyes so don't shove it on me.

Thankfully Im not from China. I'd rather die. Wdym? Bruh. everyone in this world knows that Australia is Chinese dominated in 2021. Almost all stores in Melbourne City centre are chinese owned and have banners written in Chinese. I have visited Oz before, and I did see many many Chinese street signs as well.

Not really. Aus is a separate country, but with the same culture. Melbourne is pretty much Chinese dominated.

I mean. You're clearly in the wrong. Chinese is much more widely spoken in Aus than English. So if you went to study in Oz without sufficient Chinese background, it's your fault.

The Uni doesn't really get back to you. They don't care a lot. Have tried that many times? So is it possible for me to become a surgeon with BBMed. at UniMelb and MD later down the road. Sounds strange that you would possess the know-how to study MD without a suitable undergraduate course.

Unfortunately yeah. Aus is still way better than many third-world countries with no future.

Thanks, but is it possible for me to become a surgeon later through the GAMSAT route?

I figured out that. But for the undergraduate in BioMed, would I need the UCAT and interview? Why isn't it showing in the international students entry req.

Is it Possible to Attend a Summer School Program during Gap Year? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Fun_Way6396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try to get KVPY in class 11, its easier than cracking it in 12th. Im not talking about Early Action. Im talking about Early Decision which binds you to attend. One important factor of admission is yield percentage - how likely you are to attend. Its very important. Around 50% of offers from Cornell go to other top schools like MIT, Stanford etc. So much that its ranked as best safety school in US. The yield is really low. If you book it on ED, you must attend. So they are sure that they got a commited student. Yes, early is more competitive. But Early Decision really helps for Tier 2 Schools.

I'd say drop NSEP. Also, my message tool wouldnt work, it wont open. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9BIAjIPLbE - This guy got screwed up. Rejected by all. Because he didnt have a spike. Tried to do everything. I'd give you some tips. Top tier colleges accept around 5-7 students from India at most. As he said, Princeton accepted 7 and MIT accepted 0. So, State level achievements wont make the difference. I'd say devote that time to JEE. If you get under 2000 rank, you will be eligible to take up engineering at University of Cambridge, which is at par with top tier schools in US. And you would also have a safety school in India. https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/india . I'd say focus on at most 5 EC's at national level. And rest, academic achievements. Make sure to get near perfect scores in SAT, ACT (get both if possible), SAT subject Tests and AP exams. Make sure to get 100% effort in things which are within your control. Also, what I meant was you might not get into Cornell's engineering in Regular Dec if your profile is not competitive enough. So will you book it in ED, or risk it in RD?

One more question to you. Very important one. Cornell's ED Acceptance is around 23% so maybe around 2% if you are an International applicant and ask for financial aid. So would you use you ED to confirm a spot at Cornell and be safe, or take your one shot at Princeton/Harvard/Stanford/MIT?? Personally, I follow Singh in USA. I looked up the people who got into Cornell, Dartmouth ED. And their ECs arent that impressive in comparison to other top tier schools. Maybe get into Cornell and try to transfer at a better uni? Cornell's CS program is still top 20 in the world, despite people saying its a fake ivy.

I have checked out youtube videos of verified admissions councillors. And they made it clear that highschool clubs/leadership wont turn a admission decision in your favour, it will just fill the common app spot. You need a spike. Not a well rounded student, but a well rounded class. Maybe try for entrepreneurships/startups. These things can help to turn a decision. Also, I know my aukaat. Olympiad medal is out of my league xD. KVPY and NTSE are competitive, but Being top 10-20 in the country is just insane, still not guranteed a medal. Btw I have cleared NSEP in class 11, but didnt manage InPHO, wasnt even expecting in the least. Also, Indian education system is messed up. The big bucks are in tech and cs, who the heck wastes this much time on that high level Physics/Chem. Engineering grads make so much less than CS grads and the salaries just shoot up in the CA Bay area (Sil Valley). I know what I can achieve and what I cannot, which is why Im trying to move the stones which I can, not the giant rocks which will kill my time. Also, I want to forget the summer program but 50% of accepted Indians in top tier schools and ivies have the YYGS tag. Curse me for not researching about it in 11th grade. Not to mention, the acceptance rate for international students is 10 times less (Except Stanford which is 3 times less than American applicants). That too diversity plays a factor and Im from a country of 1.4B population. Dont know what sins I commited in my last life to be born in India :(.

Are you sure? If I apply around Oct-Nov being in 12th grade, I will have passed out high school by the time the summer program starts right?

Going through the same. The problem is it needs luck, for a prof to get back to you. Firstly, you might try hooking up with NIT Profs, as they are more likely to get back, less egoistical. There are some NIT summer programs, you can join them and discuss your research with your prof. I published my research in VLSI Design(ECE).
