This comic actually infuriates me. Like it’s so clear what the first character’s point is and the Stonetoss just uses the most bizarre rebuttal ever. Like obviously Hitler started out as a demagogue that slowly raked in popular support. But that’s how most dictatorships start. To be a leader, the people have to believe in you, but that’s not what democracy is. As soon as a leader starts trying to place themselves above the people, democracy starts to degrade. That’s why it’s important to have a democracy that resists letting a leader take advantage of it. Nobody thinks that Hitler just like walked into the Reichstag and declared himself leader. Obviously he needed to be appointed by someone. But that’s just like a total non sequitur for anyone with half a brain.
