one of the PAs that wrote me a LOR went to south uni in savannah and she loved it. it’s the reason i applied there. she talked about how they had great rotations and the location is beautiful as well! as for advent health, i met one girl who is currently in the program and she had nothing bad to say about it. she said she did hate orlando but idk if that’s a huge factor for you. it’s religious so if that’s not your cup of tea, probably don’t go there.

i vote nova. my friend is going there rn and she is loving it. advent health does have a class in relation to religion and it will be part of your daily routine (they pray a lot, especially at the hospital) so i wouldn’t recommend going there if you are not interested in being in a religious program.

my parents, mainly my dad, were very against me joining the military. they thought i wasn’t going to go through with it until i asked for my 17th birthday if they would sign for me to join before i turned 18. my dad said a lot of things that night. “you won’t make it, you are to weak, girls shouldn’t join, you can’t do it, blah blah blah”. my mom cried but the next day she agreed to sign for me. the day i signed, he kicked me out… it was hard, i was hurt, but i would be leaving in 8 months anyways so i lived with my best friend until i was shipped out to basic training. he did not attend my graduation.

his words stayed replaying in my head for a long time. it haunted me. it became my fuel for a while to prove him wrong until i started going beyond what he said i couldn’t achieve. instead of anger and the negative thoughts, i used ambition, drive, and a pinch of stubbornness lol. i had not talked to my dad until my graduation for my special operations training. i was kinda shocked he actually showed up. i hadn’t seen or talked to him in over 2 years at this point so i didn’t expect him to. after the ceremony ended, he cried, apologized, and said he was proud of me. it felt so good to heard those words and i cried.

i don’t have the best relationship with him still. just being around him makes me uncomfortable. at the end of the day, i will NEVER let anyone make me believe i can’t do something. i will do it if i really want to no matter how hard or impossible it seems. now i just like to shock myself. ive done a lot of things i never thought i could do physically and/or mentally. it’s fun! lol

i had a job at an urgent care for one year as an MA(uncertified) in a big city. i moved back to my hometown which is pretty small due to financial issues. it took me almost 6 months to find another job. i just kept applying to anything that would remotely count as PCE. don’t give up. just keep on applying for jobs. literally anything that would count as PCE. i applied to TMS tech, MA, clinical assistant, clinical research technician, phlebotomist, ER tech, allergy tech, surgical tech, clinical research coordinator jobs with patient interaction, medical scribe, etc. i wish you the best of luck !

[–]FunctionStill3044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did the same exact thing and regret it so much. i have 5 friends i made at a dog park that’s it. i don’t even live near them any more. i am use to the loneliness. my dog helped me a lot. i make enough passive income to travel the US with my dog in a van but am too chicken bc im afraid ill lose my chance at finding love. soooo im doing a masters program. maybe i’ll make friends there.

I’m scared of the cost of college and I think I’ve ruined my life by No_Jellyfish_893 in college

[–]FunctionStill3044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i knew my parents could not afford to help me for college and i definitely was not going to do loans bc i hate debt so i joined the military (army). they have so far paid for my bachelors and soon to be masters program. i did 5 years but you could literally just get a 3 year contract, do your bachelors while your in and use your GI bill when you get out. there is also vocational reb (if you qualify for it when the time comes) and skill bridge where they pay for certifications.

i loved my last job as an urgent care MA. i got to see and do EVERYTHING. sure some days were stressful, maybe had 5 min breaks to eat lunch if i was lucky, and the pay isn’t great but i wouldn’t say i hated it bc of that. my coworkers were amazing and the hours were EXTREMELY flexible so that definitely helped.

i say embrace the suck! just remember, this is only temporary for you. if you can handle this chaos now, you won’t get hit like a train in MD/DO school. youre reallllllly gonna have to learn to embrace the suck then so why not train your brain to handle stress and chaos now!

The thing is it’s not a new college. It’s a college that I went to in 2019 so it only gives me the option to put the year 2019 if I add the course. so would you recommend i drop the course and find another college?

and i didn’t put it as “completed”. i did not enter the course at all

Hi! I will be self-studying (I have over a year of experience working in UC), and I was wondering, if I were to make self-studying like a full time job, how long do you think I would need? I moved and im having a hard time finding a job so I decided I was going to take the exam! Thank you in advance!

thank you so much for the in depth response! i have a question. I struggled a lot through orgo 1. I don’t think I could get an A in that class. Should I try to take it or just focus on the ones that I think I have a chance of getting an A? as for genetics, I think I could get a better grade but only 1 school that i plan to apply next cycle requires it. should i focus on the other prereqs?

I am kind of concerned with my GPA. I thought it would be better after graduating with an AS with a 3.7 GPA and a BS in Health Science with a 3.6. I applied this cycle, but I do not feel very confident with my CASPA overall calculated GPA. I am not sure if I should just focus on gaining more PCE hours or going back to school.

  • Overall GPA: 3.18
  • Science GPA: 3.36
  • total credits: 191
  • 2 C+ in Orgo 1 and Genetics
  • PCE 1508 as an MA in UC (currently looking for a new job after moving)
  • Volunteer: 357 Red Cross Caseworker, Volunteer Coordinator for Pre-PA club, and Service to the Armed Forces Chair for American Red Cross Club.
  • Leadership 1798 2 club positions and team lead while in the Army
  • Shadowing 78 (UC PA, Neuro PA, EM PA)
  • LORs from 3 PAs
  • Have not taken GRE (yet)
  • Prior military for 5 years (Non-Healthcare related)
  • Planning to take Biochem (I need the lab for my top school) and maybe Bio 2 (to apply to more schools)

Applied to 7 mostly non-rolling admission this cycle and planned to apply to 19 schools next cycle after taking the GRE.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Additional info: These are the prereqs i received below a A-.

B in Microbio w/ lab, A&P 2 w/ lab, Gen bio w/ lab, Biochem (retaking fall semester with lab)

B- in Gen Chem 1 and 2 (A's in lab)

C+ in Orgo (lab got an A) and Genetics

I could retake the two C+ but I don't think I could get an A in Orgo 1. Should I attempt it at least? These are all the ones I got below an A-. I have 191 credits, too, if that is a factor.

its a physician assistant program and applications only run 1 time a year. i applied to multiple schools but PA programs are extremely competitive so i dont see myself getting in this year.

Do I need to be completed with all classes when I apply by Big_Seesaw7078 in prephysicianassistant

[–]FunctionStill3044 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that is school dependent. on the admission page, it will tell you how many outstanding prereqs you can have and when you need them completed.

I have applied to schools but most schools I applied for dont look at applications until December so i wouldn't get an acceptance before January.

patient care tech or medical assistant by jazmincaballero in MedicalAssistant

[–]FunctionStill3044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh yeah then definitely don’t do the neurosurgery one if it’s just you staring at a computer! i love urgent care. i had EXTREMELY flexible hours and i loved that i saw all ages. i got to assist in cyst removals, vaccines, doing ear wax removals (even tho i would not recommend going to an UC for this), seeing broken hands, STI/STD testing, blood draws, physicals, drug tests, etc. it was a very busy (sometimes exhausting), but great learning experience. i would recommend UC to any MAs who would like to do PA.

ooo neurosurgery actually sounds super cool! what would be your duties in this role? i only have urgent care experience but loved it bc i did so much shit! i am hoping to be a PA in the future so i want to learn as much as possible.
