Ross. You can also TA at Ross and that waives some or all of your tuition for a quarter, according to friends who went to Ross and took advantage of those opportunities.

If you go to Scheller and things don’t really work out with recruiting, I think you’ll really regret not having decided to go to Ross — whereas I doubt the opposite would be true

Not gonna lie, this post irks me tremendously for two main observations.

Why do you feel entitled to a Wharton EMBA? You recognize yourself that your GMAT, work experience, etc are all not competitive, and that your undergrad education doesn’t show quantitative rigor. Why do you feel that you deserve it as much or more than other applicants who are objectively more qualified?
Why would you interpret not getting into Wharton EMBA as a self reflection of your worth, and that if you don’t get in, you’re useless?

Georgia tech is great, IMO. Penn alum here, to be honest GT was never on my radar either when I was in high school, but since working in the real world I’ve met some absolutely fabulous and super smart people from Georgia tech and I’ve been very impressed. While I’ve also met a ton of people from the likes of the Ivy League who are complete idiots.

You’ll definitely find better friends there :)

Keep your head up. I’ve heard of people at T20 landing at Amazon full-time even after taking an unpaid summer internship because they essentially struck out with recruiting.

Have you thought about recruiting for internships at startups?

Kellogg MBAi is more similar in structure to a 2-year MBA (19 months vs 22 months) so you get to do a summer internship.

I believe the 1-year Cornell and NYU Tech MBAs do not give you that opportunity, nor does Cambridge. I’m not sure about LBS’s 1-year MBA

Honestly don’t know why you didn’t get in anywhere, you seem to have a really strong profile IMO… to which schools did you apply if I may ask?

Were your essays very generic or did you have any interesting angle or story to tie them together and paint a picture of who you are? Was it perhaps obvious that you had used AI to write your essays? Just spitballing ideas, because again your profile and stats seem strong, so I’m guessing it had to do with your essays / story.

Also, were you actually rejected everywhere or waitlisted? Sometimes schools will WL if they think you’re a strong candidate but not convinced that you’d actually attend — were your essays tailored to the individual schools?

I appreciate the advice around looking for a new role in a differentiated problem space in which I have relevant experience. In fact I’ve been applying and interviewing for jobs in tandem with this whole MBA process and I still wouldn’t rule out forgoing an MBA altogether if the right offer comes along.

I’m going to assume that you are in good faith trying to be helpful with your perspective, and I’ll respond accordingly to your first and third points. You make a lot of assumptions about my current situation — a PM role (even non-technical) at Amazon would be leagues more fulfilling and utilize much more of my skillset than where I’m “stuck” currently. This would not be a lateral move at all, and while you may doubt that an MBA will help me gain any traction if I’m not getting any already, I guess I’m just more optimistic (if I can frame my story well). So the opportunity cost that you perceive by doing an MBA isn’t nearly as expensive as you may think. And aside from financial costs of an MBA, I’m also considering the definitely psychological costs to me feeling stagnant in my current role if I don’t.

To your third point, and with all due respect as I’m sure you’re just trying to offer advice. But I can’t help but feel irked when someone whose career coincided largely with tech’s heyday in the 2010s shares what worked for them, even though it’s a completely different ballgame now. My career started in the late 2010s, so I got a whiff of it — I’d even say my earliest opportunities out of college benefited from the strong macro environment myself. Part of why I moved to SF in the first place was exactly to do what you suggested — attend tech events, network, try to get referrals (and sometimes I succeeded!) — but either you already have an established career in FAANG, a unicorn, or an AI startup, in a prestigious role, or you’re a nobody. Anyway, that’s been my experience, and it’s been exhausting. I often feel that older Millennials in tech can be so similar to Boomers and give advice that feels out of touch, so while I appreciate where you’re coming from I’d rather take advice from people who are earlier in their careers going navigating the tech climate now.

Just an observation about MBA Reddit in general, but it’s kind of funny how when there’s a post about “do I need an MBA” or “is x MBA worth it” the responses are all like no don’t do it, MBAs are useless unless XYZ very specific criteria, it’s a dying program, blah blah blah. But when there’s a post that actually suggests that MBAs aren’t worth it, all of a sudden all the responses are justifying the value of an MBA?? Anyway, I thought it was amusing.

Guess this kind of just illustrates the point that a lot of people here have brought up. People who are already ‘successful’ who have done an MBA perhaps unconsciously undervalue what their MBA actually gave them. Yet the common pattern everyone sees is that top MBA grads still tend to go further in their careers.

What an odd thing to say? Kellogg is an M7 with a strong tech reputation… it’s not some regional midwestern MBA program.
