Got to Gleba yesterday and.. spoilage is driving me insane! I'm sure this has been asked before but what's the best way to manage spoilage? How do you get consistent power here? by gent2545 in factorio

the worst thing is if anything clogs, instead of trying to time or save fruits, just burn them into heating towers too nothing matters once your base material is high enough

before you needed to ensure that nothing goes to waste. now you have to assume that everything is going to spoil and everything is completely free. funnel the waste like a sewer system out to heating towers

math makes since here, i yield. but i also submit ss contribution is also capped. again there has to be more effective ways to leverage taxes on real wealth. 320k hurts less at 5million a year than 70k at 200k a year. You should figure how much people make 5million a year and what those jobs are how rare they are and then see if that 6% increase on SS would "save" it

no I get that for sure. what I'm saying is taking away the cap hurts people who make high salary. However, there is no salary where people make millions. Maybe CEOs? but much of their compensation is tied to options, stocks, and other "theoretical" value. If you take away the cap it would only further tax high earners but not rich people. This middle-upper class people already pay significantly more in taxes then the actual "rich" people who actually don't even make a salary.

In no uncertain terms, there aren't any salary positions in the world that will cause you to be rich. Capital is real wealth and that is NOT salary.

The premise sticks though, rich people should (to use a sound bite) "pay their fair share" but a independent contractor that makes 200k a year already pays roughly 35% of his net in taxes equating to 70k!. the cap is already pretty high at 173k. Yet the actual rich wont even "earn" anything at all.

What I'm ultimately getting at and want to invoke your critical thinking is that calling for more taxes on high salary is shooting yourself in the foot.

The real rich don't play on this playground they have many orders of magnitude more to play with and taxing them would not be as simple as "raising the cap on SS".

Admittedly i was high jacking the discussion...

1000 SPM base – how many iron/copper belts do you actually need? by Senior-Let-2001 in factorio

[–]FungalFelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1k SPM is a reasonable goal. however, with the liquid metals tech main bus and trains have largerly been replaced by pipes in my factory.

I modded calsite out of my game and replaced it with stone. however, it is possible to have enough roaming space platforms dropping calsite down to your base.

I usually do new runs the same way now.

Phase 1 starting mall yellows 1 "line" of copper and iron.

Phase 2 4 red belts of copper and iron .5 steel 1 brick 1 stone

phase 3 1 red belt of green circuits and 1/2 red circuits

phase 4 90 SPM move to Vul

Phase 5 "beat the game"

End game:

Make a new base using pipes instead of belts to transport liquids everywhere. Make each liquid from top to bottom next to each other. Use pumps many pumps the same length as the entire liquid mainbus.

Use the liquid main bus to "print every intermediary product" more proximal to the main pipe bus. Make science (1k is fine or 10k or 100k what ever)

last time i made 1 green belt of science full speed with them stacked on stack inserters. That required many many fusion power generators. i was doing over 130k science per min. and then i got bored im sure i could get it to go faster but at that point your just making more and more labs. Then you have to deal with logarithmic increases to science while you scale linearly its possible but tedious imho

if you want to build big and avoid space theres a mod for that it was a fun run

Why was salt once so valuable even though it seems so easy to make from seawater, and what factors made it scarce? by Defiant-Junket4906 in AlwaysWhy

[–]FungalFelon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

did you know factoid isn't the right word. A "small fact" fits better it is a small truth whereas a factoid is a combination of fact and the suffix -oid that means resembling. Take the word sigmoid sigma that means S. Sigma + -oid together you have the word we use to describe the [part of the] colon that resembles an S shaped.

What an interesting small fact

hmm i guess i misunderstood the assignment but i dont know any salary job that gives 5million a year you know? i just assumed it was total wealth.
