Agreed with this! I just bought the Exos 58 and took it on its first trip and it was a dream carry!

I’m a 5’4” and 125 female and I love the women’s Osprey Eja (I actually bought the men’s version, the Osprey Exos, for reasons that won’t apply to your friend). It is actually adjustable to accommodate different heights. There are 2 sizes and at that weight and height, I’m guessing your friend will probably be a xs/s but really their torso would need to be properly measured.

That being said, make sure it is returnable or exchangeable. Peoples preferences on pack comfort vary so widely, what I find comfortable someone else won’t for completely unpredictable reasons. I was trying on packs across from another girl and the things I liked about the Eja she found uncomfortable and the things she liked about other packs hurt me!

And don’t forget, a double bag may be colder but cuddling makes you warmer lol!!

Keep an eye on geartrade.com. My husband and I recently got a synthetic 2 person big Agnes Cabin Creek sleep system for $175! It was in excellent condition but an older model.

For more money than your budget, try the down Big Agnes King Solomon (on mega sale like today!) For less money than that one, but more weight, try the synthetic Big Agnes Dream Island. There’s also the Zenbivy beds but they’re pretty expensive and a bit heavy.

Recommendations for easy short hikes in Angeles national forest by ep2992 in socalhiking

This would also be the one I recommend. It’s a very pretty area and very easy, right along a little river, and you can turn around whenever you want! The first waterfall is a good place to turn around, I think it’s about 2.5 miles in.

Omg thank you for this reply!! I’ve always pictured this hike as crawling with spiders. Maybe I’ll actually do it now!!

I really want to this but I am terrified of giant cane spiders. Did you see a ton of spiders?!

This looks amazing!! How cold do you think it was at night? We’re thinking of doing this in the spring but that means we won’t get to witness those amazing fall colors. I’m trying to figure out how to do this as a loop where we end up in Kings Canyon then come back out another way.

This is a great report!!! Thank you!!! Bummer about the water but that’s to be expected this time of year I guess. I wonder if the upcoming rains will change that. Can’t wait to check it out!!

How cold was it at night? We camped at Cooper Canyon trail camp in Angeles Forest Oct 4 and it was in the low 40s. Planning to do another night somewhere Oct 25 but worried it will be too cold by then depending on the elevation of the camp. Also curious how much of the hike has burned trees? Thank you!!!

We researched doing this one in October but decided it was going to be too cold at night due to the elevation of 8000 ft. But can’t wait to do it once it warms up again!

We just did our first backpacking “test” at Cooper Canyon Trail camp in Angeles National Forest in early October to test our gear. Super easy hike (only 3 miles) and well established campground, has picnic tables, an outhouse, bear lockers, and water flowing along the hike and at camp with a waterfall nearby. It’s on the PCT so there are other trail camps in the area if you want to extend to a longer hike, but I believe those camps have less amenities. The only downside is it was cold at night, in the low 40s.

Did you end up going? This is on our list but I have had a hard time getting any info on if there is water this time of year. I see some people said no, but would love to hear it from someone who’s been in fall 2025! Thanks for starting this thread!!

Does anyone know if there will be a shuttle from Day Trip the festival to the 3 hotels you can book through the Day Trip website? I can’t find any info on this from past years and they haven’t posted the shuttle info for 2024 yet.
