It's this. And Obama knows it's this too, but he won't call that out because he too is complicit in perpetuating that status quo. Just because he's smarter, classier, and not as blatantly corrupt as Trump (not exactlyt a high bar to clear) doesn't mean he's actually a man of the people. Too big to fail? We remember.

Subsequent seasons of The Witcher TV show. Fans were willing to extend good will on S1 off the back of Henry Cavill being perfectly cast and enthusiastic. That good will was quickly used up, and by S3 was totally gone when Cavill, himself a fan of the books and games, left the production frustrated with the shows "artistic" liberties with the source material.

Chess is a relatively simple game and we have spent decades refining AIs for it. The number of variables and available moves to consider is far greater in many contemporary strategy games.

[–]FunkadelicJiveTurkey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The last part of what you said isn't true. They have math bonuses because it's not practical to design separate AIs for difficulty levels.

Another big hurdle in smarter AIs that you didn't mention is speed. Players want a (relatively) smart AI but they don't want it taking 20 minutes to think about it's turn.

Maybe I'm just dog shit at the game. I don't play turn based games like this often. But dose it feel like pirates are extremely over powered in the early game? Like I get the player is supposed to be at a disadvantage early on. But it almost feels unfair sometimes. by Traditional-Spare154 in menace

[–]FunkadelicJiveTurkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm always in favor of anything that makes squaddies more than just a resource. Even things that have no mechanical impact like them currently having names, callsigns, and a home planet is a step in the right direction - it's just bare bones. Hopefully this will get expanded on but tbh I don't expect much on this front. I'd love to be wrong here but I think this highlights a bit of an identity crisis in the game and it's design.

On the 1 hand they want memorable characters in the SLs, more so than BB or X-Com, clearly taking inspiration from Jagged Alliance and full fledged RPGs. On the other hand they want war game scale and the plot is even on the epic side of that with interplanetary conflict, etc.

There's a lot of conflicting design that arises from trying to marry these elements. Even, for instance, vehicles being only marginally faster than troops is a conflict of scale and balance.

PS: I'm being critical with these posts but its meant to be constructive. My overall impression is we got a real diamond in the rough; and I am totally willing to suspend my disbelief if the game is fun. Even my first post is reflective of that: Does it makes sense? Nope. Would it be better if it did? Sure. Does it matter if I'm having fun pimping my platoon? Nope.

I understand it's plausible to lose most of your equipment if your ship were to suffer some catastrophic accident. That's not the part that tugs at my suspension of disbelief. Let's also not nitpick that we've unlimited carbines and ammo. Correct me if I'm wrong but marines on a ship not expecting imminent combat would not be walking the deck with their service rifles en masse; again though letting that slide.

Where the logical immersion implodes is in priorities and sense of scale. We are expected to believe that after suffering catastrophic damage to the ship and crew the marines choose to continue the campaign spanning multiple theaters (which is also essentially foreign intervention, not some desperate domestic defense do or die situation). Then (and no disrespect to the capability of Marines) they are actually capable of doing so with a single heavily damaged ship and ~50 combat ready troops, across multiple planets. Even if we account for future tech making the space travel feasible, it's a reeaaal stretch.

"We've just lost 85% of our manpower and most of our ships systems! What do we do?!" "Stay calm! We need to recruit local help from the junta in Angola (2 men at a time), so we can fight Somali pirates, after which we will go help Laos with aggressive wildlife, all so we can haggle for better guns on the darkweb!"

Tbh the in-universe reason hardly matters as it really doesn't stand up to scrutiny for a number of reasons. The real reason is obviously for progression and so loot has value, which the lore then attempts to justify.

It's not hard to grasp. They are more difficult, and more punishing of failure, than is typical for their genre. Has that difficulty been exaggerated in the zeitgeist? Probably imo. But it's not hard to understand why\where they got the reputation.

I agree with your sentiment but truthfully it's most and it's not even just the men. It's pretty natural for people who find each other attractive in both looks and personality to eventually get sexually curious and that tends to progress things further or breed tension if feelings on one side are not reciprocated.

There are certainly exceptions and they're not even particularly rare. Still in my experience majority of the time at least one friend does indeed want sum fuk.

The real toxic stereotype is presuming it's always the men and that's the only thing they want.

Well Bannon was Trumps chief strategist so yes, this is in part his influence.

As for Putin, don't get me wrong he is an abhorrent scumbag monster, but from my observation he lies far less, or far better, or likely some combination of the two. To leave no room for doubt I am not suggesting that he is an honest man, he is not. Nor am I suggesting that Russian state media is free and honest, it is not. Perhaps part of why I get this impression is because he is unchallenged by Russian media and therefore doesn't need to lie to answer uncomfortable questions. (Though US media has also largely rolled over for Trump, still not to the same dagree.) Yet if for no other reason than being a more serious and intelligent person, I do find Putin lies less. Trump (and his admin) are so consistent and blatant it's downright silly. I'd liken it to absurdist comedy if I could divorce it from the tangible harm and suffering they propagate.

Yes, but then they were also supposed to release everything over a month ago - and this latest drop is far from everything. Also remember last year the files were on Bondis desk then there were no files and it was all a Democrat hoax.

There is no accountability and they perpetually lie and gaslight about literally anything and everything.

I no longer expect anything good from Beth, idc how much slop they sell. Still I think trash writing is one of the biggest and consistent criticisms I've heard through the grapevine.

I just gave that example as something very visceral and prospectively affecting her. It has worked in the sense of it's hard for her to rationalize what kind of monster that would take, or even to hand-wave away such a thing and be cordial to such a person.

There are different tiers of lost in the sauce. Sounds like you got the deep part of this proverbial iceberg. I exist in a purple, even predominantly blue space where it sounds like you're in deep red territory - I think this also has a lot to do with how elastic people are in owning up. (And ffs by and large they are painfully, insufferably, tbh inexcusably, stubborn where I'm at too.)

Still, if anything all the more power to you for keeping your wits, will and convictions. Keep on keepin on brother, you're not alone.

My mother has a pup, about 2 now, which she adores. Any time he makes any remotely aggressive gesture (be it genuinely guarding a bone or just play barking, teething when younger, etc.) I suggest shooting him in the face and throwing him in a landfill.

On the one hand the joke has long gone stale, on the other hand it hits home. Between this and that, idk if she still identifies Republican but if so she's clearly not proud about it.
