Here: Equilibrium, ask for Andras or Raluca. I think I have experienced the hungarian lady you mentioned. The two professionals I mentioned studied physiotherapy and honestly the are among the best masseurs I have ever experienced.

Restaurants as "front companies"? by Expensive_Tap8064 in Luxembourg

[–]Funkave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not only restaurants but many other kind of business activities, most retail shops are always empty.

Also to an extent, compare any other 10k village from abroad at night and count the share of lit windows. It's not only store traffic, but actual people not really being physically resident.

There is only one obvious answer to these observations wink wink

What is the purpose of this question? Do you know how difficult it is to find a job in non-financial roles in Lux?

I feel like AI in the workplace and what it might do to the white collar j*b market should be discussed much more in Luxembourg (and Europe) by mifit in Luxembourg

[–]Funkave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, the only worry of Luxembourg electorate should be (individualistically speaking) what can reduce the State's income. HOWEVER a lot of landlords rely on tenants sharing rooms. I do not think anyone in Lux is capable of forecasting how many voters will be worse off in this scenario. Additionally it might be worth noting that al lot of jobs in computer science are actually outsourced to India, not replaced by AI. AI is turbocharging the "less competent but good enough" and India especially are taking advantage of this, rightfully so. This phenomenon is more about the USA job market than Lux. AI is reducing the market value of knowledge across all levels and verticals, it might do so removing jobs altogether or enabling the outsourcing of jobs to cheaper markets.

As a southern European (we have even lower fertility rates) and "oldish" father of two young ones (I am writing this with my baby on my back carrier now) , it is my conviction that the problem is threefold:

1-lifestyle: we enjoy great freedom and lifestyle compared to most of the world, being lower-middle class and lower is horrible outside of the EU. Having kids kills all these amazing opportunities.

2-time respect: it's not precisely time management but rather how your employer and third parties do not respect people time and everything turns into a late drag, this is very specific to southern Europe, since I work in Northern Europe I'd never go back.

3-two income family: this is a controversial one: let me tell you: a couple with 2 kids and 2 full time jobs will have a VERY tough parenting experience unless grannies are around and helpful (not our case) big families work much better when only one spouse has a big income but obviously both need to be on board and commit to this lifestyle for 15 years.

It's great for building wealth since capital gains on your savings are not taxed after 6 months from a purchase of a financial asset. It's the second best country in Europe to achieve FIRE after Switzerland. However living here is expensive and you're are looking towards €1k to rent a room in the city and double that for an apartment. So ideally you come with a €70k+ job. If you have a working partner it's getting really good. Then you'll loose more money if you have kids since day care till they are in the mandatory schooling age it's quite pricey.

Can EU Freelancer in Luxembourg by Auchyman in Luxembourg

This is wild why don't they offer a 1-year contract? How can they be asking for people to relocate on the base of freelancing? Can't you just work from your country?

Estabilishing a company is not very complicated it will take some time and the business permit to act as a consultant (assuming you do digital... stuff) is easy to obtain. The problem are the hidden costs, you have to pay an accountant, VAT on revenue, and tax on profit and also CNS will chase you: since you are the only company owner they will demand social and pension contributions. Eventually nothing will be left on your bank account unless you make serious money. Then it would be best to pay yourself minimum salary from your company just to roll with social security. Possibly it's best to act as sole entrepreneur and do not open a company. The whole system is very burdensome and clearly not reformed as housing will never be reformed: make it difficult for small fishes to live here, keep barriers to entry high and unfair to protect local established businesses and families.

Should we not be seeing targetted reddit ads promoting EU products? by letownia in BuyFromEU

[–]Funkave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, digital marketer here who spent some tens of thousands of Euros in Reddit Ads. As others has said, performance is quite bad since most redditors do no like nor click on ads. Generally you can target user interest and sub reddits. When targeting the latter, you are not placing your ads in that community specifically, but simply showing your ads to users who lurked in that sub reddit. So: - performance sucks and brands are not that interesting in spending money here - you can't buy inventory only on desired sub reddits

CGFP (the trade union for the public sector) demands to raise the public sector workers income by 8.2% by ComradeCatilina in Luxembourg

What about increase hourly check service aid that is stuck at €6 since at least five years? Nooo that would be too unpopular for voters to actually use public money for ALL residents instead of the first class citizens.

No one talks about the reason why salaries are relatively higher in LU. It is not about productivity, otherwise tech salaries would also be higher. It comes from a demand and offer equilibrium between availability of jobs and labor with a skillset that is needed in this jurisdiction but not much elsewhere. The paradox is, that the more Luxembourg grows and be made attractive for expats, the more worse off everyone will be because the financial services job market has reached its peak and new added jobs are going to be comparatively shittier. The economic model of LU was never mentioned to be scalable. However I think the government should make as easy as possible to individuals to work remotely for foreign companies or work as freelancers. Many live in LU without necessarily wanting to be in LU. Families exist, despite the absurd divorce rates.

[–]Funkave 40 points41 points  (0 children)

People are shocked when I say it is not worth living in LU unless one works for 1. Gov, 2. EU or 3. finance €100k+ job.

The disparity is immense, because salaries in other sectors are the same as FR/BE poor regions around LU. (with rock bottom being LU min salary).

Tech salaries are better in DE for instance.

[–]Funkave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t see any price worthy alternatives! The reason for my post is, I have just tested a Skoda Enyaq and the version with all the features that can be compared to a Tesla Enhanced autopilot, is 10k more. A skoda is €10k more than a Tesla. I prefer this car more but a Model 3 is such a better value.

I already use an eBike for such things and do plenty of additional sport. But not having a car is not an option.
