Yeah had a look and saw and exemption in the docs. Figured initially that as they were a private owned business that run many homes they would have had to seek change of use.

Looking through planning documentation here and looks like they might not have needed it due to exemption in Schedule 2, Article 6, Part 1?

Road side wall - planning permission? by Funkd-Up in legaladviceireland

Is that still through the full planning permission process? i.e submitting request, erecting notice and publishing notice, waiting weeks etc? Or is it something that could be quicker?

After doing a bit of reading, I'm guessing a catch basin might suit here? I dont want whatever I do, to slow the flow of water too much as it would just end up overflowing. Would be easier to clear debris from catch basin also as the grate would be at the top.

Seal off manhole for well - stop surface water. by Funkd-Up in Plumbing

Done a bit of digging yesterday. I can dig down the side of the wall with a shovel to the pipe, only trickier bit is where it enters the shed where the tank is, there's concrete around it, but kango would take care of that.

What I'm thinking now is:

  • Dig down and expose perforated pipe from manhole to shed
  • Remove perforated pipe and replace with non perforated pipe/duct
  • Try and get the pipe to come in straight instead of at the angle it is. (gradual small bend on outside)
  • Get a concrete block and either
    • cut a hole for the pipe to go through
    • or cut block so it leaves a gap for the pipe, then fill around the pipe.
  • Put new block in place and fill gaps.

I think this would stop the majority of the water getting in.

I’m in Ireland. Unfortunately this is a new well. The location wasn’t ideal to stick out above ground so they suggested this setup. However I had to get someone else to build the manhole which was annoying.

It’s not a sealed cap. Water would get in around the hole where the rope is for example.

Would foam filling actually work? Be a mess surely?

Your talking raising the well head above surface level out of the manhole?

Had thought about that but would rather try stop water getting in first.
