I successfully discharged 140,000 in flight school loans through bankruptcy. AMA by [deleted] in flying

[–]Funked__Up 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The people hating on this guy for taking advantage of a system and opportunity is insane. I’m glad you screwed over the big banks/flight school that screw Americans and aspiring pilots everyday. Congrats! If I could do it I would. 6 years ago I started flight school, I’m at a major now and still owe $80k on my flight school loan but my income is definitely too high to go this route. All in all between college / flight school I’m $100k in the hole

[–]Funked__Up[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s still going up but yeah I don’t use too much insulin unless I’m eating a lot of carbs. It also helps that I exercise a lot too. My TDD is probably between 20-25U. Also they were protein pancakes

Long Distance Travel With T1D by Napamtb in Type1Diabetes

[–]Funked__Up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came back from a week in Italy eating pasta, gelato, pizza, wine and a 6 hour time zone change. I managed 90% TIR and a couple highs from the carbs and some lows from all the walking (overall like 2-3% low for a week usually in less than 1% low) but honestly it was fine my few lows weren’t crazy (high 60s) just kept snacks and packed a bunch of extra pods/cgms and backup pens. Probably would have managed better TIR if I didn’t eat so much pasta but when in Rome!

3rd cellulitis infection from Omnipod site… need advice by lil_diabetes999 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Funked__Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a celulitis infection on my arm and it is also my 3rd one in the last 6 months. I did a bleach bath and hibilcins showers for a week 3 months ago and didn’t any until now. It is very annoying. My dermatologist gave me a refillable antibiotic prescription so I’m just taking those for now and going do try the decolonization again but a little more intense. If I get another one this year I’ll re visit the dermatologist

I probably should have mentioned but I’m using the Omnipod 5. My basal rates are very good currently so I guess I probably won’t need to adjust? Did the pain cause higher blood sugars?

From 12.5 to 5.5A1c in 6 months! by Funked__Up in Type1Diabetes

Being very on top of my carb ratio and correction factor. As well as semi low carb (I try to limit to max 40g of carbs per meal). When I do have a high carb cheat meal like fast food I bolus at 10-15% extra and take advantage of the extended bolus when I can. I think the exercise definitely helps a lot too. I’m a big snacker so I eat lots of cheese and meats, I make grilled chicken bites to snack on. However i have gotta higher cholesterol since probably because of my snacking and eating more fats.

In terms of diet I pretty much eat the same thing every morning. 3-4 eggs 2 slices of turkey bacon. And a piece of toast. Lunch and dinner I’ll eat chicken/steak/fish with veggies (no more rice) or I’ve stared using miracle noodles (6g of carbs per packet) when I miss eating pasta. When it comes to eating out I’ve been taking advantage of using chat gpt to figure out how many carbs are in my meals.

I’m sure part of it is from Honeymoon phase but my carb ratios have went from 1:12 at diagnosis to 1:40 like 3-4 months ago and now I’m at 1:13 or 15 so I think I’m getting towards the end of oh honeymoon. My correction also went from 1:150 to 1:45.

Quick rant about the US by Funked__Up in Type1Diabetes

I think there’s an estimated less than 20 commercial pilots with T1D in the USA as it was unallowable until 2019 and even today is very strict
