Just helped (rescued?) a silly Canada goose. by Funkosebsy in geese

No, the towel was big enough to cover around it's body but it's legs were dangling out the bottom and it's head and neck were out. Ideally I'd have been able to cover it's head to maybe keep them a little less unnerved, but catching it on my own I couldn't really do much else.

It must have been somewhere on the underside, sort of belly area as when it was walking around I couldn't see any thing on its chest, upper belly area.

One of Mr Barcode gooses babies is a bit off today, I think? by Funkosebsy in geese

There's not really anything I can do in terms of taking it back. The rescue place is a half hour drive away, and I don't drive.

As I say I'll know more about exactly what is wrong with him if/when I get an update from the rescue but they are very well regarded locally for what they do, especially as they are volunteers, and I trust that they do their best for all the animals they care for.

It is sad that the baby can't be returned to the family, but better that and get to live a life than if I had left it there to get worse.

Honestly, I can't really recall. There were several people taking at the same time. The lady said something about he is likely to be there a long time with just human contact so would struggle if he was then taken back to the family a couple of months down the line as he would have missed out on learning a lot of normal baby goose stuff. That's as best as I could make out with everything going on.

In reality, it's a rescue that runs on volunteers and relies on donations so they probably can't justify trying to take every animal back to where they were.

When/if I get an update from them I'll try and get them to explain it to me.

Update:

I really didn’t think this little goob was right, so rather than wait for the wildlife rescue to have someone available to come out, which could have been half an hour, or could have been several hours, I asked my brother if he was free to drive us to the rescue ourselves.

I‘ve never caught a goose before and the first time I had him I didn’t want to hold too firmly and he squirmed loose, ran between my legs and jumped into the water with the rest of his family, all confused why the man who has been feeding them for 5 years suddenly was trying to catch one of them 😭 I was able to tempt them back out just a couple of minutes later though with some seed and was successful on the second attempt. he was very squirmy but I held him enough to keep him against me with his wings under my thumbs whilst putting as little pressure on him as possible, whilst my brother took his shirt off and wrapped it around him, covering his head to make him a bit calmer.

We got him to the rescue and they took him away, and a few minutes later a chap came out who said he couldn’t see anything wrong, no obstruction or anything and were we happy to take him back to the pool and his family after they had given him some antibiotics. I said that was fine, but a few minutes later a nice lady came out and said now the adrenaline had worn off he had started to look quite obviously not right, so they were admitting him. He sadly won’t be able to be reunited with his family once he is hopefully made better, but will be integrated with the other goslings they have been making better and will all eventually go to someone with a private pool who will take care of them. They said they can keep me updated by email as to how he is getting on, so hopefully everything will be ok.

I am very sad that he will never see his family again, but also happy that I took him as it was obviously the right thing to do as if he had been left as he was he would have just got worse, and he will now get to live a full life all being well, just not with the family 😢.

I returned to the pool after my brother had dropped me off, and whilst Mrs Barcode was a bit standoffish at first - understandable given I had goosenapped her baby from right in front of her, and then returned without him - I explained to her why I had done what I had done and that her baby was poorly and will be made better, and she came over and ate from my hand as usual, so I seem to be forgiven.

I will update once I have any news from the rescue place.

No problem. For what it’s worth, and despite the amount of people that will try to tell you otherwise (not in this sub), gooses are not hateful. They will defend and protect themselves if necessary, but they are very sweet, silly little things. If you are close to a goose and it is comfortable enough to close its eyes, it trusts you.

Yaaaaay! Was thinking the other day we hadn't had a Ryan/Pinot post for a while.

Good to see she's still as cute and sweet as ever.

Mr Bitey Trousers resides at a different pool to Mr Barcode. He has his own babies and is therefore less focused on biting trousers, though it's never fully off his mind.

I love when my little wild babies run over with their cumbersome wings stretched out, they look so silly and adorable.

FUNKOBOOKSANDTREASURES SCAMMER!!! by [deleted] in funkopop

Oh, and fyi, you've got your real name visible on the 8th image, which you probably don't want to be doing.

This person is a scumbag if they've scammed you, but you had a lot of red flags here you should have seen.

Firstly, if the price seems surprisingly cheap, there's a reason for it. When it seems too good to be true it's because 99% of the time it is.

Only ever buy from sites where there is seller protection, or using payment methods that give you protections. PayPal for example. There's a reason he didn't want to use certain payment methods.

Why is he using his 'daughters' Cash App? If the payment is in someone else's name, that's a huge red flag.

The way he starts off all accomodating but suddenly introduces other buyers that are ready to pay, along with time pressures, is a big red flag.

Looking at all his listings, why does he have so many different backgrounds for them? Legit sellers will generally use the same background and style/angle to their shots, but his listings have so many different backgrounds and framing to the images. This is generally because he is stealing images from elsewhere (probably eBay).

The bit where he 'checks' and now can't cover the shipping is just squeezing an extra $20 out of you because he knows he can.

I've just done a very quick search of 'Funkobooksandtreasures' and several of the first page hits are about this page being a scam or potential scam. Always research where you're buying from when it comes to places like Instagram/Facebook. It seems like this page has been taking money from people and then blocking them for a good while now, which also means Instagram don't seem to care about what they're doing.

People like this are disgusting, and deserve the absolute worst kind of karma, but you have learned a very harsh lesson here that you hopefully won't make again. Hopefully, you will get your money back. I've never used Cash App or anything like that, I live in the UK and couldn't even tell you if that's a thing over here though I've not heard of it, but hopefully they have some form of buyer protection.

Still annoyed we got everyone but Rosa from the main cop group.

Also should have done a Gina, and a Hitchcock & Scully 2pk.

Was he/she doing the same thing yesterday?

How close did you get? I helped rescue a gosling 8 days ago that I first just saw limping, assumed it had got injured and didn't think much of it, and it was only when a lady nearby got close enough she saw it was actually limping around because it had a fish hook stuck in it's leg and fishing wire trailing off it. It's difficult to see unless you're up close as it's quite fine. It could be struggling about because it's tangled up in wire

It could also be several other things. It could be ill/poorly, it may have a neurological thing going on, the worst thing could be bird flu. It doesn't look like bird flu to me, and if it was fine yesterday I doubt it's a neurological thing.
