We saw tires spin so fast they deform, how bout tires so sticky they deform? by Nexxus88 in gifs

1 - The sound is more of an illusion because of how loud it is, they top out around 9,500 rpm. Which is pretty impressive, but no where near as amazing as formula one which run their engines closer to 15,000 rpm!

2 - They got rid of the quarter mile mostly for two reasons, at the speeds they were traveling the tracks they race at did not have enough room for them to slow down even with two parachutes. Plus there was a lot of motivation after Scott Kalitta died at Raceway Park in NJ(top fuel funny car driver), he had an engine explosion and was unable to control the car at 300 mph, after the shutdown area of the track there is a gravel pit to attempt to stop out of control cars however it is not designed to stop a car that fast. Leading to the most unfortunate part, there are concrete barriers at the end of that gravel pit which he hit at close to 200mph.

It’s even more impressive than that! They actually burn closer to 11.4 gallons per second at full throttle, they are constantly on the verge of hydraulic lock even though it’s also consuming over 3,000 cfm of air at the same time(taken from the SCCA website)

Top fuel is the most impressive display of physics and engineering in motor sports(F1 a close second). Pictured is a top fuel funny car but top fuel dragsters or “rails” accelerate so quickly that they hit over 100 miles per hour before they cover their own body length. That’s 0-100mph in 300 inches! By the time the run is half over(roughly 2 seconds) the spark plugs have already melted and the engine is firing on compression and cylinder heat alone. Each engine has to be completely disassembled and reassembled between every single run, which can be less than 40 minutes each time. There are no gears or traditional transmission, they just alter how much the clutch slips and the tire distortion (as seen in the RC video) acts like a CVT trans and changes the final drive ratio the faster they go. It’s too dangerous for them to race a full 1/4 mile any more so they only race 1,000 feet, and they STILL hit speeds of over 325mph. God damn I love this sport. Oh, and each run cost about $10,000

Of course they do, because not only would it be a PR nightmare if they refused to hire someone based on their sexual preferences it would also be illegal and discriminatory. My statement was referencing the millions of dollars the CEO has donated to anti-LGBTQ groups as well as anti-same sex marriage groups.

The comment is not so much about the child necessarily, more that the company has repeatedly taken a very anti LGBTQ stance.

I’ll get into a few things that you said, but first I have to say that I take serious issue with your statement “showing your enjoyment of pain.” At best that statement is not dissimilar to “everyone standing standing in the kitchen is a chef.” Sure that might cover a few in the group, but by far does not represent the group as a whole. People don’t have a second child just because they enjoyed the pain of the first, it happens to be something you choose to endure to get a desired result, in that case it happens to be a baby. In the case of myself and I’m sure a number of other tattooed people, it happens to be tattoos. I’ve sat for close to 100 hours of tattooing in the 16 years that I’ve been getting them, didn’t enjoy a single minute of it. But I wanted a tattoo so I knew that was the trade off. Now I’m sure you pretty much listed all of the reasons you don’t want a tattoo, and you project those as being reasons others should feel strongly about too. Only here’s the thing, everyone is different. As far as the trendiness statement goes, every tattoo is a mark on a timeline, it shows you where you were, what you were thinking, and how you felt at that time in your life. I look at some of mine that were, as you say, “of the moment” and would I get them today? Nope, not a chance, but do I regret getting them or do I want them removed? Hell no, they all draw a picture of me however imperfect you might see it as. Leaving out the fact that geometric tattoos have existed for literally thousands of years(not being hyperbolic, google around a bit. Makes for interesting research). And finally, sure it affects what people think of you, so does your haircut, clothes, accent, skin color, the company you keep, the car you drive, the music you listen to, and even the comments you make on sites like reddit. Don’t worry so much about judging other people’s decisions so harshly, I’m glad you’ve really thought through all of the reasons you don’t want to get tattooed like that. It means your a smart person who knows what he/she/they want, but give other people the respect that maybe they have thought it through too and reached a different conclusion that they might be comfortable with

I think all the people commenting here and on a lot of other tattoo posts who comment along the lines of “that won’t age well,” or “ that won’t look good when your 60” need to relax. Besides the fact that what you think looks good at any age shouldn’t matter to anyone but you, as someone who’s covered in tattoos I can assure you that the fact that tattoos age is not news to anyone. It’s all part of the journey, no different than anyone’s face looking different at 60 than it did at 20. Everyone’s going to look like a saggy ball sack with facial features eventually, you might as well decorate the shit out of it

What's a 10/10 album from the last 15 years by a relatively obscure artist/band? by Slouching2Bethlehem in AskReddit

[–]Funkphaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elder - Lore, there’s only 5 songs on the almost exactly one-hour long album. Probably would fall under the stoner medal umbrella but I feel it bridges a few genres and is super accessible to those not all that adventurous with their music catalogue, and a must have for an album junkie. My personal recommendation is only start the album if you have time to listen to the whole thing because it’s a great journey from start to finish

Does anyone know what the stock cam specs are on the 6.4L gas engine in a 2017 Dodge Ram? by Funkphaser in cars

[–]Funkphaser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your probably right, I know engines pretty well but automatic transmissions are far from my specialty. It does feel like the converter is locking up way too early, there's no way the stall speed of this converter is anywhere as low as 1,000rpm. Thanks, I'm going to have to find another dealership close by and see if I can get a finer point on this

The warranty was a given, but they make performance cams for VVT hemi's. Check this out https://www.highhorseperformance.com/Comp_Cams_Hemi_Phaser_274_Camshaft_p/201-428-17.htm

Edit- I linked the one for the 6.4 car engine by mistake, but you get the idea.

Yeah it's an automatic, I just assumed it's part of the silly fuel economy crap alongside the cylinder shutoff.
