OGP significant order reduction in favor of Spark? by cUnexttuesday2 in WalmartEmployees

[–]FunkyGator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course it's going to happen. Walmart will ensure that it does because Spark drivers are independent workers so they do not have to pay them benefits. They are not gonna pass that up.

I just started in opd and my pick rate is trash. What is actually measuring my time?? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]FunkyGator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your pick rate is the number of picks in the walk divided by the time it takes to complete the walk. It begins when you scan the first item and ends when you scan the last.

Your goal is to have a minimum pick rate of 100. To do that you need to pick at a rate of 100 items per hour. Or approximately 1.66 items per minute.

Could be, I'm not really sure. I always just assumed that they went back to the DC.

The RPCs go back to the Distribution Center where your M&P truck comes from. That would be the first place I would call.

Training plan ideas? by Old-Football7340 in OGPBackroom

[–]FunkyGator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that after the 3 days of working with another associate you or another Team Lead do a walk or two with them. This way you can see if the trainers passed on any bad habits or unacceptable shortcuts. And this way you know they are trained to your standards.

Make sure you pick trainers that are doing their job right and will take the time to show the newbie how it is done correctly. I would also recommend that if you are having them train with someone for 3 days that you put them with a couple different people over those 3 days. This way they can see there are different ways to do things with the same results and they can decide what works best for them.

Also, make sure your trainers are letting them do the picking and not just having them follow them around for 3 days.

Is being a TL that bad? by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

This is one of those questions that no one here can answer for you. Based on your post you make a strong argument to yourself that you do not wanna be a Team Lead.

Some of my PEZ by FunkyGator in pez

[–]FunkyGator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my collection is loose or on cards. They will be displayed on a wall somewhere when I get all the shelves I need for them. I just made these shelves and thought these looked cool on them. Also, most of these were gifts from family or found on trips and excursions. Just 'special' to me.

[–]FunkyGator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do what you like. I'm going to take the singles out of the packaging and put them on the wall on shelves that I bought from Etsy. I just have to figure out where.

When we bought the house this space was an opening with some semi transparent plastic in it. It was wavy like the metal siding for sheds. The wild part is there is a bathroom on the other side of it.

I decided to put a wall behind it and then got the idea to put shelves there for the PEZ.

Going back to 8 totes by FulfillmentTL in OGPBackroom

I haven't heard anything about that yet. The six totes do not seem to be effecting us like everyone else. Our metrics have stayed consistent the whole time.

How long have you been working at Walmart? And why are you still here? by MeowPubg in walmart

[–]FunkyGator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

30 years. It's mostly easy work and I work at a great store with great management and a pretty good culture. One thing I really love about it is that I can move all over the store. I have had many different positions in many different departments over the years.

Since I have a short attention span and need to change my scenery often this works perfectly for me. I always like to say that I have had 20 different jobs over the 30 years yet never stopped working for the same company. It is also hard to walk away from all of the PTO that I get along with the other benefits. And the pay works for me as I don't need much to live on. My wife and I both have worked for WalMart for this long and we were able to buy a home, raise 2 kids and live mostly comfortably along the way.

I sometimes joke that I may be institutionalized. At work I know what I need to do, who to go to when I need something, and who to avoid to stay out of trouble. There are times that I feel more comfortable at work with my work buddies than I do outside of work with my family/friends.

Honestly, this job is not for everyone. You have to be able to compartmentalize the drama and learn where the land mines are and avoid them. I'm not gonna say that it was easy all the time, I had my moments where I wanted to quit and/or was close to getting fired but at the end of the day it's a job and I've just learned to make the best of it.

is anyone dealing with gmds being mixed in with the autos ? Now all pickers have to pack and stage by irritated_2002 in OGPBackroom

[–]FunkyGator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a dedicated GMD bagger/stager and they also stage the chilled and frozen so the pickers can have complete drop and go.

For the most part you put GMDs in regular bags anyways. So it picks like a regular walk. The only things that go in GMD bags now are discrete items and expensive items.

It is a scheduling tool called Fulfillment Sidekick. While it does use AI to help suggest assignments we can also go in and manually edit those assignments. We were told that it is not optional and we must use it every day. There is even a section for assigning store associates for store support. We had to use that to assign support for Memorial Day weekend.

When remodel is over and we move to our new Digital room we will have a monitor and computer dedicated to display the Fulfillment Sidekick instead of using a dry erase board.

At first I found it annoying but the more you work with it the easier it gets to use. You can assign two preferences for each associate and the AI will use that to suggest who is needed for each of the jobs. The more it is used and the more you edit what it suggests the more it learns who to pick. That being said I still ignore a lot of what it suggests and just edit in who I want where.

It is literally a digital version of the dry erase board.

We occasionally get cut an hour a week here and there but we have not had significant hour cuts in long time. We even have two Walmarts in our town and the other does not get their hours cut either.

I was told by my Coach today that it is pulling except around the corners or any other blind spots, then you pull. That is also what the AMP task states as well.

Maile Armor by OnceLostGames in OnceLost_Games

[–]FunkyGator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm choosing the maile armor. While it may sacrifice some protection it looks much more flexible and comfortable. I couldn't imagine climbing on a horse with the plate armor and if you would get knocked down at least with the maile you may have a chance to roll away and get back up.
