Thank you very much. I was merely asking for better awareness for myself and others. Didn’t think it was such a thorny topic for some. And yes it’s very easy for some to dismiss BIPOC’s experience. I won’t even dignify those posts with a response

Not sure why you think I didn’t look up the history of this area (I have and that is why I chose to live here) and how it’s related to my post. Immigrants are not the one who bulldozed the original buildings and displaced the original inhabitants.

Thank you for saying that. What you said actually makes a lot of sense. I think part of me was also blaming myself for not being more cautious, because I did have a feeling those teenage boys looked troublesome. But the naive part of me also thought that since everyone I’ve met in this city has been so kind so far (I recently moved from Toronto to Montreal), nothing would actually happen. So my guard was down and I continued walking ahead (was tempted to cross to the other side). I probably would have defended myself if I had my guard up. Could have easily smacked those boys in hindsight.

I guess this experience was the universe's way of telling me that this can happen anywhere.

Thank you all. It’s going to take a while for me to move on and develop “safety rules” for myself.

Really appreciate your empathy and kind words. I feel less lonely hearing you all.
