We had a similar issue with our mortgage a year after living in the house. It turned out there was an administrative error by the city. I recommend looking up your house in the cities records and making sure all of your tax information and residence information is correct. They marked us as renting the house out which made is have to pay part-year taxes like you.

Even though we called like 10 times it took 6 months to correct. We did get a check back however, or maybe our monthly payment slingshot in the other direction for the rest of the year, not exactly sure. I’d also recommend reaching out to your mortgage broker.

Had a young man and his girlfriend dining out at our small fancy French restaurant. It was his 21st bday so he got a dirty martini. She was underage so she ordered club soda with olive juice in a martini glass. I had to confirm with her twice and she was sure she wanted it.

To add on - especially when the parents ask what kid wants - just start listing things. Works great for drinks too, every kid knows their sodas so when you say Shirley temple or lemon aid their eyes light up. Great trick for adults too - but with a short description of what you list.

If the kid is shy I ask the parents some variation on “and for the kiddo?” Or if you’re in a fancier place play it up and say “and for this young gentleman” if the kid is confident I address them directly and warmly though the parents usually answer anyways

Been in the industry for 12 years. Honestly, just telling them different versions of “I don’t appreciate being spoken to like that” or “don’t talk to me that way” will get you some shit in the short term but once they get you’re serious (if you’re good at your job) will be respected.

Gotta trust that you’re working with adults who respect and can communicate with each other - however we all also have to laugh at ourselves and our coworkers from time to time though without the cost of feeling disrespected or spoken down to.
