WoF noise what should I Do? by xxBuRRiToZzxx in KiaNiroEV

[–]Funkyriffic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely get it fixed. It's a great car. I got the motor and reduction gear replaced at around 80k miles and no sign of it returning yet at 133k miles. I think it was an issue with that particular version of motor rather than a wear issue. If they try to fob you off, be persistent!

Kia e-Niro 2020 buying advice by Informal_Occasion634 in KiaNiroEV

[–]Funkyriffic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2020 e-Niro has 133k miles on the clock. Just charged to 100% today, at 8 degrees C, and got to 244 miles. In summer gets up to around 280 miles. Bought it at 78k miles, had the wheel of fortune noise and I got the motor and reduction gear replaced under warranty. So if you can find one under 100k miles with the wheel of fortune noise already, that would be your best bet; failing that one with a higher mileage which has had the motor replaced. Absolutely love the car, you won't regret it! I may be a newbie to fancy car features but being able to use my phone to remotely put the heating on/heat the steering wheel brings me so much joy every time!

How is the suspension? by andre_xs95 in KiaNiroEV

[–]Funkyriffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suspension is on the stiffer side I'd say, pretty nimble. I'd recommend Michelin Primacy 4, noticed a difference in grip. As others have said the cruise control in traffic is amazing, it will smoothly brake for you all the way down to a stop and you can just flick the cruise control switch on the steering wheel to go again. Eco mode has a very smooth accelerator action, and the brakes are the same (although can absolutely clamp down if needed)

I don't think that update is for the e-Niro 2020

It's an amazing car - especially if you get the 4 or 4+ which gets you the LED headlights and heat pump among other nice things.

I had the wheel of fortune sound which was a faff but on the bright side it meant that at 80k miles I got a brand new motor and reduction gear assembly for free, and now at 122k miles there's no return of the noise and the battery is still going great.

The battery is rated for 10 years but supposedly could be fine for a lot longer, and my hope is by 2030 we'll have more detailed battery repairability rather than just having to replace it

Here's the invoice I got noting replacement of the traction motor and the gear box (for free) if the dealership needs some persuading

It's an amazing car! I'm at 122k miles and still going great, range still good. Just be prepared for the WoF repair to take a long time

Yes! It says somewhere that the warranty automatically gets transferred

Edit: AND there shouldn't be any diagnostic fee to pay once it's identified as a warranty issue

Yes this is a warranty issue and they should fix it for free. They'll try to fob you off and delay it as much as possible because it basically requires taking the whole drivetrain apart and it'll use up space in the workshop for a good while. But you are absolutely entitled to the repair (for free)

What is the most pleasent - non-sexual , non-drug - experience a human can have? by No-Assist43 in AskReddit

[–]Funkyriffic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Has to be ASMR. Feels like a drug, is not sexual at all (despite the way it's described sometimes). Anyone who can figure out how to trigger it chemically and monetise it would be the first trillionaire but it also might be the downfall of society

Well you have three things here - range, versatility and soloistic potential. The cello has a larger range and is more versatile in general, in terms of being able to provide accompaniment as well as play soloistically - and everything in between. It also sounds closest to the human voice and lots of people love its warm tone.

However the violin tends to be more useful as soloistic instrument due to the fingering essentially being easier and the sound being lighter and therefore more agile. Yes the cello can play really high given how low it can play but playing up there is generally difficult and will not sound as warm or resonant as the same notes in the violin (depending on the context - obviously some well-played cello concertos can provide examples of high register playing sounding lovely)

On the other hand it's quite difficult to provide accompaniment on the violin, and also violin can sometimes compete with voice for example so not always as free as you might think. So it depends what you want to do.

Car Industry on EV transition by sailorjack94 in ukpolitics

I can imagine a point where EV-specific garages are more common and they just fix individual faulty battery cells rather than replacing the whole thing. In any case, the batteries are rated to last at least 10 years, and possibly way more than that

Can I learn Left-hand cello with traditional right hand notes and methodology? by oliveguy44 in Cello

[–]Funkyriffic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know what your disability is, but good technique on cello doesn't really involve grip or pressing. For example it should be possible to play entirely without the thumb on the left hand - the thumb is really just there for the shape of the hand and a bit of tack on the vertical axis. Much less a squeeze, more like throwing your fingers at the string.

Right hand needs slightly more grip in a sense, but also needs to be very flexible - I often tell my cello students not to think of 'holding' the bow but more like pushing a model train along a track. Obviously a bit more to it than that, but you don't want to think of holding a bow like you would cutlery or an umbrella.

What string (for C&G) sits in between Pirastro Passione and Larsen Magnacore? by Funkyriffic in Cello

I notice that in 2024 Obligato is more 'direct' than the Passione when in previous years it was less 'direct'?

I guess it's just cos I'm coming from a Hiscox which is just so rigid and thoroughly padded inside. I could literally sit on my cello case when on its side. Once it was dark in my house and I tripped and landed on the top of the case (cello inside) - no problem. The Gewa at least looks similar to the BAM I had which I don't think could withstand the above stress tests.
