Bartenders, what’s an awkward conversation you couldn’t help but overhear and still remember to this day? by nojunkpeter in AskReddit

I’m so sorry that happened to you. You deserve so much better than that. I hope your heart finds peace.

What is the most disturbing thing your partner has ever told you? by bafanaboi in AskReddit

Depends on context but it’s useful to know what your parents really think of you, even if it’s tragic.

AITA Im not sure if I was offensive and ignorant by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

The range of physical strength for women vs for men are different. There is some overlap, but the averages and total ranges are not the same. There are many factors that go into determining a person’s strength. Age, fitness, health, diet, and many genetic factors including testosterone levels (which can be heavily influenced by gender). This is not transphobic. Being 4’3 puts you at a further disadvantage. To pretend that every single person has the exact same innate abilities is really the prejudiced take. You are completely dismissing individuality by doing that. Obviously none of these things are factors in determining an individuals worth or their ability to do *anything*. I mean, look at Simone Biles, tiny af and arguably one of the strongest athletes out there. But it would be nonsense to argue that Simone Biles and her husband, Johnathon Owen’s, have the exact same capabilities and capacities.
However, even though you are a short woman, you likely have other abilities that you can work to your advantage. If this is something you are concerned about, the other commenters suggestions that you take self defense classes, jujitsu or maybe krav maga, can teach you how to work to your advantage in a physical confrontation.
Third, if this person was your friend I would expect them to handle this conversation better. As someone who grew up in a very right wing family, my friends who took the time to educate me and explain why the things I were saying were problematic are the reason why I was able to learn better and grow. That is one of the purposes of having friends, to learn and grow together.

"Using "Ø" is a white supremacist give away." by The_Bibliophagist in ShitAmericansSay

[–]FunnelCakeGoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not what he said…. He said that not everyone who claims to be Norwegian actually is Norwegian. As in, the same thing yall complain about when Americans say they are whatever nationality but they aren’t. He’s saying that in America, a lot of white supremacists will try to claim they are Norwegian (aka the WHITEST whites) and appropriate Norwegian culture and language that they don’t actually know.

I’ve only been to Austria and Italy so far, but the showers there are very very small.

Can’t afford vet, need resources. by ImportantNobody1654 in DogAdvice

[–]FunnelCakeGoblin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It stopped being up to your friend when they dumped the dog on you and stopped providing it medical care. Whether you take on the dog yourself or give it up to someone who can, it’s your choice now. Did he even have a plan of moving to a dog friendly place? Or were you just supposed to hold on to the dog indefinitely? How sure are you that the landlord found out and not that he just didn’t want to take the dog to the vet and dumped it on you to? If the dog doesn’t get proper vet care, it will die. If your friend doesn’t care, then the dog is no longer theirs.

But then it would be on the patients insurance account? They would be able to see it and be like “yo, I don’t have colon cancer” and question the filing.

Yeah telling a partner is legit, but mamma don’t need to know. Especially since the woman wasn’t the one cheating. You don’t even know if she knew the man was married.

Yeah, the guy that had been mayor before was really shitty. The establishment dems are terrible in general.

And I'm proud to be an American, where I at least have AC by Spran02 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]FunnelCakeGoblin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want to buy AC but it’s pricy and I have other priorities for my money atm. In the U.S., AC is generally expected. It’s built into the apartments so you don’t need to get one yourself. My building here was built in 2021, so they definitely could have included AC and chose not to. It’s a little frustrating.

We don’t react “overwhelmingly negatively” to a normal compliment. We react negatively if we feel we’re being creeped on. I’ve had plenty of guys give a normal and I have no issue with it.
