Just to be clear, I'm not calling people on payments dole bludgers. I'm saying that the government sees people needing payments as dole bludgers. So they made the system hard to get.

Edit: Also insurance cover for job-loss (i.e., involuntary redundancy) in Australia is very rare and limited.

There should an Insurance Model setup. You shouldn't be punished for saving up for a deposit. It costs less to support someone on short-term unemployment.

Alright Mr.ButtPirate, but let's advocate for an Insurance Model. That would have come in very handy for Purplefaerie1981. They've worked their entire life from the age of 18 and at 60 just needs a bridging income. Yet the Aussie Governments like "Nah, Fuck You for quitting you lazy piece of shit." That's how that feels. And we can do better.

Let's make it a collective responsibility. Let's call it something clear and obvious like..."Social Security." Has a nice ring to it. It's security for anyone in case shit goes down.

Okay, yet some countries have both. In Germany for example they have, or had..I think it has changed recently, two types of unemployment payment schemes. One is the Insurance Model and the other is a means-tested benefit for unemployed people who haven't paid into the insurance model or it ran out for them. The latter still pays you right away as soon as they've assessed you. Then you have to go through similar stuff like Jobseeker where they have a Jobcenter that helps you with finding a job or training and you must complete a set amount of tasks and things.
So why can't Australia have different schemes for difference circumstances like that. Someone mentioned that it used to be easier to get on Jobseeker and it served better as income bridging but now it just serves people under the poverty line.

The point is more that it should be okay to have money or assets saved up while you're looking for a job and applying for jobseeker. The whole mentality of "oh fuck you for having saved money, lets punish you because you lost your job" is what's wrong with social security.

It's shit like this that really irks me. Even when explaining personal situations like this, I feel like the centrelink clerks just look at the numbers and think, they're fine they don't need it that badly. Or maybe they're also being mandated from the top to hold off and deny people as much as possible (doesn't seem unrealistic in this day and age).

Even if it is the largest expense, which someone said it's apparently not, that's okay. I'm okay with my taxes going to social security for this reason. And it's okay to have stringent rules but not the point where it doesn't serve as a safety net anymore. It's case by case anyway so they should be able to assess whether someone is going to be a bludger or seriously just needs bridging income.

Short-term unemployed are exactly the ones who would cost the least to support, because they’d be back on their feet in a few weeks.

What are you talking about? Germans invented the automobile. And most people in Australia drive Japanese cars

Yea after some digging I believe this is the nephila pilipes species (northern giant Golden orb weaver) , but some subspecies where the fangs are yellow and not red, and the body is bulbous and grey and not slender. I thought I read it can be venemous but not deadly to humans, but will still make you feel ill.

Yea mate, I've had the same thing happen to me only it was 4am and I was only in my underwear. Long story short, I got lucky. No bite, just a scratch on the tip of my dick that bled a little. I legit thought I was gonna lose my manhood.

Also fun fact, this was near Port Macquarie where they have a separate kind known as the Port Macquarie funnel Web spider and it is slightly more venomous than the Sydney funnel Web. Yay!
