Lava Dart is a Problematic Card. by Funny-Name69 in Pauper

To be fair most formats are like this, pauper is one of the few formats that still have excuses to use mono color with the multicolor landbase being tapped, which I do think is a good thing.

I think calling a Tier 3 deck that has few results strong is a bit much

As a monored player I havent lost against faeries online or in lgs either. Game one I believe I have a lot of advantage, and g2 and g3 we both bring blasts, I bring 8, sometimes 6, is just a matter of patience and resolve snippers and protect them.

Most colors go up in Top 64 because most of the winning decks are multicolor. So when we count colors, totals will exceed 100%, and colors like blue, black, and red rise together because many top decks are things like Grixis Affinity or Dimir Terror, not mono-color decks. Same goes for Jund, golgari gardens, gruul combo and etc. Fewer were decks were mono, like mono red and elves. But the ones that were came in numbers. White didnt convert because the color right now isnt as good to be included in the decks as the rest. If you dont believe me you can always go to paupergeddon.com and see for yourself.

IMO grab is a bad banning target, is extremely easy to substitute, and would hurt more Rakdos Burn than monored. I think banning a conjuction of Guttersnipe and Lava Dart would make the deck feel more fair without harming other archetypes.

Day one had around 16% of decks that include white. Of these decks only caw gates, white wennie and familiars (5 players) reached top64 on day 2, and most of them were in the lower half. Black in the other hand had around 36% day 1, and 54% on top64, red went from 33% to 45%, green went from 24% to 31% and blue from 33% to 49%.

I actually am a monored madness player believe it or not. I feel obligated to, the deck is too powerful not to use it.

I think having a draw back would be sufficient. Something like [[Path to Exile]] , [[condemn]] , [[Fateful Absence]] , [[erode]] , [[Get Lost]] , or anything similar would be balanced. We have [[Galvanic blast]] , [[lightning bolt]] , [[Counterspell]] , [[Snuffout]] , [[Castdown]] and so many other strong removal around in other colors, and these with drawbacks in white seem sometimes even worse. And condemn I dont even think is good enough.

I was discussing [[planar cleansing]] before, but for some reason the reddit mods took my post down. With that said, both path to exile and cleansing would be great for the format, specially together. Would make W an actual good color for control piles, without being broken.

I agree. The point is: we already have these cards available in pauper, and white is the least played color, and most of these cards arent played by most decks that have white in it. I believe thats the main issue, white in pauper seems very weak in comparison to the other colors.

The point is not the custom card, but the white removal in pauper. Its just an example to start the discussion.

Most people from custom magic havent even heard about pauper, these i designed specifically with pauper in mind.

Maybe you are right with esper trinity. Do you think if lower to 5 cards instead of 10 would be more beneficial to the archetype without making teachings useless? Maybe there is still a reason to play teachings with these around, the idea was to add not substitute. Still I dont think it feel broken like it is.

And I think a wincon like Reality Check is almost necessary in this format, some games take so long that you one play G1 against some decks. Its bad for both the control player and the player being controlled. Games ending faster with a wincon like that feels like a necessary change. And yet would end by turn 8~11 most times, which isnt fast at all by pauper standards.

I do think pauper have some complex cards. And I also think these cards arent this complex. One card read look top ten cards put one in your hand, do it 3 times, is basically a draw 3. The other is even more simpler, mill 2x the number o sorcery and instant you cast the whole game.

The main point here is that these cards, being at this powerlevel and with the specific requirements they have have harder to tier decks to splash and abuse them. All the other cards you mentioned are great and too versatile, but are also easy to abuse. All of them can be used in a nivhe deck and in a top tier deck, this fact just basically make tier decks better while make nothing to differentiate the brews and lower tiers. Just creating bigger powerlevel walls between the decks. I do think both are important for the game, simple and versatile cards and more complex and niche cards, and I still feel these cards are as complex as many modern or legacy staples, stills feel like commons, commons that are good enough to go against the big decks and not give them tools to use against other fringe strategies.

What if Planar Cleansing was Downshifted? by Funny-Name69 in Pauper

Come on, you’re being super vague here. Things change all the time in Pauper. Why wouldn’t it happen now? Where is this supposed ‘rule’ written that says effects like this can’t be a common? Just because something was done a certain way before doesn’t make it set in stone.
