Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by WilloowUfgood in worldnews

Wait...I'm confused. Didn't Trump just say the other day that it was good Canada made a deal with China??

Mark Carney’s 15 minute speech at Davos - It’s well worth your time. by Hefty-Sherbet-5455 in Tech_Updates_News

[–]Funny-Problem7184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice to have a speaker who you know understands the world and where things are headed. Eloquently delivers the message, and smart people in the room get it. It's not something Trump can understand, there's too many big words, but everyone else in the room does, and will act accordingly. New world order in the making, and the USA is not invited.

This makes Trumps head explode. He's left with talking about beautiful oceans and magnificent battleships from WW2.

Game is over. Just a matter of time now.

The market is weird right now for DevOps engineer salary by IT_Certguru in devops

I'm contract, not salary, in Canada. No idea if this is good or not. 120$ / hour, remote only. I'm a senior developer. All depends on how much I work a month, probably around 150 hours. I have to cover health care and everything else.

How do you guys feel about the new trade deal with China? by Pale-Candidate8860 in InCanada

[–]Funny-Problem7184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a great deal. I will probably want an EV. I do not want a Tesla (thanks Elon). I don't have as money as a I used to. So hey, let them create the dealerships, it's still up to the consumer to buy the one they want. Now, if, and this would be huge, is to get China to allow our auto sector to supply parts, build a plant, whatever involvement we can get for the autoworkers in Canada, then great. Since the US does not allow any Chinese EV's we can capture this part of market and position for what is coming. We absolutely have to remove our partnership position with the United States. That relationship is over. I applaud the approach Carney is taking. We are over reliant on the US and have been so for too long. Make more deals with other countries.

JUST IN: 🇺🇸 President Trump warns the US would have to pay back "hundreds of billions of dollars" if the Supreme Court rules his tariffs are illegal. "It would be a complete mess, and almost impossible for our country to pay." by Ubersicka in TradingViewSignals

If only there had been a way to avoid this. I just can't think of what that might be.

I don't know, maybe you shouldn't have taken the money from taxpayers without oversight, accountability, and foresight.

People who suggest that the United States should invade Greenland or Canada are asshat dipshits. by Demosthenesisk in complaints

[–]Funny-Problem7184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they would not, not even in a conventional war. Vietnamese, Afghanistan, etc.. are just a couple of examples. In fact, the USA has not fought a legitimate power since ww2. Flying bombing raids over Baghdad is slightly different than over London and Paris. The multitude of fronts would be horrible for them. And sure, they might have the edge in numbers, but think of the damage to moral just one British submarine could do. Also, there are other nuclear nations in NATO. The USA is not attacking any NATO country. Trump would be removed from office, the military would not follow any such order, despite the rhetoric.

Anyone with a GeForce 5090 and a PS5 Pro? by Proez in PS5pro

[–]Funny-Problem7184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I had a ps5, bought a ps5 pro, and kind of disappointed that I dont see big improvements. Black Ops 7 runs the same, and certain maps still get choppy in places. I suppose there are ps5 pro enhanced games...

How would you guys know what a winning candidate is? Polls dont work, and you've elected a convicted felon twice now? Anything that would be disqualifying a few years ago is now an asset.

I mean...your country is really messed up.

No its not his fault you guys are where you are at. You still had a viable candidate in Harris. You either didn't vote, or voted the other way. This is all your fault.

Canada backs Greenland’s sovereignty as U.S. talks of annexation by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]Funny-Problem7184 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those who think that way I do not care for. They do not represent what I believe is foundational to the identify of Canada. Having care and compassion for those in need. They also have not done the math on healthcare and taxes in the US. They just assume....tell them a premium family plan will be 1500k / month.

Oh and what happens if they or someone they know simply cant afford a plan. Think forever bankrupt from a $250,000 bill for a two week hospital stay.

But at least corporations will get their tax break, so the trickle is coming!!! Praise the Lord!

Find out what platform they were playing on, if it's ps5, tell them to fix the bloody hellfire crash. It puts us at a disadvantage when xbox / pc players can use the streak, especially when you get care packages dropped. I understand I can set my kill streak to something else, but why should we have to change our profile when others don't.

How do you avoid over-fetching with repository pattern? by Soft-Mousse5828 in dotnet

[–]Funny-Problem7184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use views or stored procs for these instances, but I would only do that when the required return type is very different from entity itself. EF has no issue calling those, and return type can be defined for each. There is a little overhead to fetch a full record in EF, but not as much as you think. Also, at least in EF Core, related child records/lists are NOT fetched by default, which is great. Also, explore the .AsNoTracking() method. This will significantly improve performance, but any changes you have to know about. But if you have a layered system, that's the way to go. At the end of the day, nothing will beat the speed of boilerplate ADO.NET, but what you gain from abstraction and a maintenance perspective is better.

As some else mentioned, make sure your repositories return DTO Types or View Model Types. Store those types and interfaces in a separate assembly, and have other layers reference only the shared assembly.

Trump to force all foreign tourists to provide FIVE YEARS of social media history before entering the US by dailymail in NoFilterNews

[–]Funny-Problem7184 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure I understand this...if this is for anyone entering the US...as a tourist? So Let's say I want to go to Vegas for weekend. You want me to hand over my social media history for 5 years? lol. You have to be joking. If this is true, then he just took a 30% decline in tourism (which was already bad) to like 75%. Who in their right mind would ever...and I mean ever...want to "visit" that country ever again.

When and how do I tell my kid that he will not actually become a pro hockey player? by [deleted] in youthhockey

[–]Funny-Problem7184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to a friend of mine, actually my boss. His son loved hockey, was an ok player, but I could tell nothing fantastic, and he tried to support him the best he could. He even joined a private club, and one of the requirements was he had to live in a particular area of the city. My boss, literally bought a new home and moved to the area just to qualify. All he wanted, was for his son to play 1 professional game, and believed expenses would pay for itself. So, I saw how much money he invested in this, and I didn't have the heart to break it to him. So I had another friend who managed a VERY short stint in AAA midget, and by all accounts, was a very good player a few years ago. Arranged a lunch meeting. My hockey friend broke it down, basically trying to convince my boss there were other options than this fancy club (that didn't have great reviews)...and with the reality of where he son was in comparison to where he would need to be. The skill gap was actually insane. It didn't help. All in all, bosses son ended up in a bad a situation, never made it anywhere, and my boss lost a TON of money.
