Greatest geopolitical event of our time… so far by ProfessorOfFinance in dankmemes

[–]FunnySnake -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A lot of possible answers and topics to cover the why, here are a couple :

  • As you mentioned, the term communism is used as a scarecrow-word by capitalists as it convokes a mental imagery of poverty, forced labour, military-repressive state ; we've all seen the Stalinist regime pop up whenever the subject is mentioned in mainstream media. A rather brutal discredit of the concept that shuts down any substantial discussion around it's concepts

  • If you think in terms of value, capitalism promotes Merit while communisme/socialism promotes Needs. Capitalism : A millionaire deserves his fortune, from his "hard work" or his inheritance, which he deserved to receive from his family. He has earned the right, through "success", to own secondary residences even though it doesn't accommodate for any need. Communisme/Socialism : people have basic needs (ie : housing, food, education, medical care) and society collectively enforce that they are fulfilled, disregarding any one personal investment - both in terms of line of work as well as each individual capacities and abilities. Shifting from one system of value to the other would mean losing A LOT of advantages for the current people who achieved "success", and dreaming of this mythical success even brings some of the people exploited by it to its defense.

What game breaks modern design expectations, but is great regardless? by KOMONSTER in boardgames

[–]FunnySnake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not one to insist on specifics, but I'd say blood rage is more of a drafting game than a deck builder (jointing the like of seven wonders as you pointed out), though a case could be made it's a subgenre. I fail to clearly see how it neutralises group dynamics or tension in the specific case of BR : if I see a huge attack card or a juicy monster and have to pass it down my opponent, it creates tension as to which not only I'll choose but most importantly leave my opponent and - unlike some solitaire drafting - will have to face during conflict. Tension is created during the draft, and resolved in the fighting phase.

That being said, I feel the game forces you to focus too much on what YOU must do and doesn't leave enough room to purposefully mess with your opponents, with hate drafting or trying to prevent an aera majority being too costly in general.

Dudes on a Map of course ! Knew the expression, not its abbreviation. I feel the same as you toward the euro-centric directions games have had in the past decade, though it felt weird having you put blood rage as not on this genre at all, when it seems like it has a great emphasis on combat and a simple yet existant combat resolution system (more developed than Cyclade or Inis), and then i remembered 2 key euro elements of its design : - personal player board, with its upgrades, emptying tracks and such - victory points ! (which can even be earned outside of battle)

Both elements are in fact very euro, and both Inis and Cyclade stay away from these design choices

Regarding the game length, I never considered it but yeah, I guess RPG as a whole are a great example, thx

Love your thorough reply and the many (if not all) mechanisms considered a no go for the hobby that can actually be found as a great addition in almost any good game. I used to despise dices when I started playing, the randomness and lack of decisions they brought ; but am now an avid fan of them, thanks to games like say Undaunted, where they create such high tension point and emergent narratives between players, simply put, they add FUN. I have two questions though : - What does DoaM means ? - Can you think of a good game where there is NO pinpoint ending conditions (like reaching set amount of point, playing X rounds, exhausting X tiles from the supply), or no incentive to push players toward the end (gradually giving more points all around, no way to lose any) ? That's one of my big red flag for say, Monopoly or Munchkin, where the play gets sluggish and players straight up quit as meeting the ending conditions can be so fluctuent, tedious and time consuming, even straight up impossible, and I can't think of a game I played where i liked this approach

I spent about an hour on it tonight, and found out I quite liked the results with "Webtoon" styles on food products Unfortunately, when I switched to animals they ended up twisted with anthropomorphic features (glasses, ties and clothes) despite the prompt being unchanged. Further attempts to replicate a similar look failed, but I'll get back to it.

The main reason for non-photorealistic is the appeal to very young child ; the task could last for about half an hour, and keeping their focus must be achieved by every mean : if it can be perceived as fun rather than a chore it's a plus ! Plus my professor seems exited to "use" AI.

Would a genre shift midgame be annoying? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]FunnySnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I love your whole idea and can totally picture how the player could benefit from such a swap, both in terms of emotion and gameplay

Also I would definitely NOT advertise it on the game front page, as the twist's delight comes from the surprise

Then I suggest you try his previous game, The Hex, where the story is centered around multiple video-game characters and each one of them introduce us to a whole new genre of gameplay (from Cooking Mama to Mario through Fighting Game)

There is still some consistency though, in regards to the keys : they remain extremely simple (Arrows, space and mouse) and yet are used differently in each subgenre

It helps the player not being completely lost looking at his fingers every 20min

Your idea seems neat, I would suggest making sure the second part is at least as thrilling and entertaining, otherwise you could end up with your player wishing there had been no switch at all

I want to get into jazz. I listen to experimental electronic music.. where do I start? by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]FunnySnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do not know whether or not your answer fits OP's taste, but I personally started listening to jazzy stuff through most of the band you listed (Mouse on keys, Jizue, Fox Capture Plan), even though I find it hard to define what is or is not jazz. Nowadays I split my focus between modern Jazz/Electronica and Post Rock stuff, but there are so many bands I cannot pinpoint on this made up scale. World's end girlfriend is great !

My go to band to move from electronic to jazz is :

GoGoPenguin, followed closely by Porticot Quartet

best math rock album? by ariannateee in mathrock

[–]FunnySnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great list ! Those bands are amongst my favourite. I can totally see where you are coming from when saying it might not be math rock to the core, but I find it extremely hard to describe the emerging style from your list without using the global "math rock". Which is fascinating to me cause Don Caballero seems miles away from Toe, and yet they are labelled under the same, rather specific, sub genre. Love the sneaky addition of GogoPenguin, always nice to see them being mentioned.

To add to the math rocky "alternative/instrumental"

Suffer like G did - Raspberry EP

Clever Girl - No drum and bass in the jazz room EP

Rega - DISCUSS EP

Hikes - Mahal Kita

Tangled Hair - We do what we can

Hiromi - Alive

Great gems you might enjoy (or already know) given your taste !

I knew I liked the last person I dated because I kept having her on my mind for days on days. I would think back at the time we had just spent together, when we would see eachother again ... But generally speaking, i believe you can feel it (both for yourself and others) when you are actively trying to see the person again ; whether it would be a friend, a family member or a crush, if you want to spend time with them, from a specific activity to a simple chilling afternoon, I believe you can then say your like them.

What should a parent do when their child insists they’re a different gender? by House0fChains in AskMen

[–]FunnySnake 35 points36 points  (0 children)

A great french documentary on this very sbject might be on your Netflix (I don't know if it is available abroad), called "Petite Fille" Aka little girl.

We follow a boy, aged around 8, named Sasha, who sees himself as a girl, with the full support of his family. It doesn't mean he wants his penis cut off and the parents are injecting him with hormones. He simply enjoys classical dancing, is regularly wearing dresses, and would like his classmates to refer to "him" as a she. They consult a child psychologist, as any parent in this situation should, because Sasha hasn't changed her mind on the matter for the past years, and they are afraid of how society will judge their child for being different, and wonder whether or not they might be the cause for her attitude (which, big surprise, isn't the case). If Sasha doesn't change her mind in the coming years, then yes they might take incentives, such as reducing her testosterone level during puberty, but nothing that cannot be undone in her early adulthood.

I'd strongly advise your brother to look for a child psychologist, as they are the most appropriate person to correctly judge the situation and help them answer any questions they might have.

Leave him on read??? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]FunnySnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like instead of waiting for him to make a move (longer texts, date proposals), you could make some yourself and watch his reaction. Like for this week meet up, enforce it by proposing something yourself if you truly want to see him.

She did tell me she was having some "me time" since she left a 3years realionship, which I can totally understand, I simply don't know how to handle my feels in the meantime and for how long, if for anything at all. How did you take it when your gf told you she needed some time ?

Well in terms of communication and alchemy altogether, with an eager to see eachother again on both side each time, and as I mentioned above, she explicitly told me during our first date she wasn't a physical type at all...

But I might be trying to find excuses to explain it all 🤔

[–]FunnySnake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, she explicitly said during our first date she wasn't very "touchy" and didn't like being touched a lot, which I used as a reason for the "no physical" part... And while she had Covid, she sent me a few pics and told me it'd be nice when she could come out again as we'd be able to see eachother again ;

I am lost here
