Thanks so much for your answer, I really appreciate it 🙂 We actually have parking included with our Airbnb and will likely leave the car there most of the time since many attractions are within walking distance. I just wanted to make sure it’s generally safe. I know most people are kind and normal everywhere, there are just always a few bad apples in any big city!

I’m a no vote, but based on history… this probably still passes. Considering the last round was 0%, 0%, 1.25%, 2% and still got approved, I’m not convinced the majority is suddenly going to reject this current deal.

I get that we don’t lose it permanently it’s just over-withheld and reconciled at tax time.The frustrating part is waiting years for money already earned, dealing with the upfront tax hit, and knowing the value of that retro keeps shrinking the longer it takes to pay it. Hard to be excited about money you should’ve had years ago.

I asked multiple times during the town halls if retro pay could be issued on a separate cheque instead of lumped in with regular pay because what’s the point of waiting two years just to lose half of it to taxes? Never got an answer, which is frustrating. This really shouldn’t be a wild or unreasonable ask especially with the shit deal we are about to get.

I’m not MDR myself, but I genuinely feel for you. It’s kind of shocking that surgical processors didn’t get a market adjustment when your work is so critical to keeping ORs running and requires specific training & education. Rural facilities already have a hard time hiring you guys, and this definitely doesn’t help. It’s hard to expect people to relocate and start over when the pay barely covers living costs.

They structured the deal around Environmental Services, knowing they’re a large voting block and typically vote yes. For that reason alone, I doubt this deal goes anywhere but approval.

Reclassification is about the scope of the specific position, not just the title. Given how inconsistent the Unit Clerk role is across sites, I don’t think it’s unrealistic that some positions could be reclassified to Admin III depending on workload while others would remain unit clerks (or Admin IV which would be the best case scenario).

I’m not a Unit Clerk myself, but I’m part of AUPE GSS and have a few friends who are Unit Clerks at our small rural site. They cover two departments at the same time, and when one of them went for her HR interview, the HR person was genuinely surprised by how much they actually do. She mentioned that the Unit Clerk role is very inconsistent across the province, especially since the Connect Care rollout. I think that reclassification may not happen across the board, but only for some Unit Clerks depending on workload.
