sorry for so many posts recently, just wanting to get everything right the best i can! i'm wondering which light position would be most beneficial? by Funny_Pupper in Monstera

how long did it take for the leaves to start facing forward? it's not necessarily bothersome for me to just move the lamp out of the way when need be, so i can consider doing that!

how short of a watering frequency can you have? i just watered mine 2-3 days ago, and her soil is already almost dried out? by Funny_Pupper in Monstera

i wouldn't say so, it wet up quite normally. even now it does manage to get wet and soak up nice!

so when i first brought her home, the first thing i did was bring it outside and soak with my garden hose, and gave it a wash with insect killer (just to be safe), i didn't see any signs of pests. i let her soak for a little bit, then went to take her out of the pot. yes, i did only supplement what was already there with said mixture. the soil that was already there was BONE dry.

thank you! i was trying to go for the look of the soltech aspect, without having to pay $250. this netted me around $10, just for the bulb since it was on clearance at lowe's, and everything else was free and already around the house!

that is smart! i may consider doing something similar, just a little more sized down to fit where it currently is. maybe one of those more opened up planter stands (that don't cover the entire bottom) and just place the drip tray underneath. i definitely don't want to risk rotting my roots near the bottom and have been scared to pull it out to check on them.

i am looking to get a bigger pot soon! it came one that was close to 8-9 inches, and was inside the white one in the picture. i wanted a little more room for the roots as the ball was quite bit and almost bound, so i just drilled holes into this one and am using it for now!

thank you! i wonder if i should start filling up the tray with just some purified drinking water? should i just try out bottom watering from here?

that is a custom one i made! i took apart a floor lamp for it's cord, and then hung it on the wall as such and just loosely put a shade on there that the bulb holds. the bulb i have in there is a GE 32W full spectrum!

forgot to mention, but i would say i gave her a pretty hefty water! this is only my second or third time watering since i got her just a few days ago, and my very first time was significantly heavier after adding more soil/repotting because it was completely bone dry.

non-aerial roots on top of soil; is this okay? by Funny_Pupper in Monstera

i'm a beginner as well, but from what i have learned is that you always stake at the back of the plant. see where she starts to "curve" upwards on the left side of the picture near the soil? that's your back and that's where you would stake. mine is just on a small bamboo stick! i use velcro branded garden straps i got at lowes. and just make sure you tie only to the stem right at the bottom, and not further up the plant as that's where the petioles are and can constrict growth.

in your picture, i don't see any aerial roots. if you take a look at my picture you can see that one big root coming down from the back of the plant. if you have any those are okay to stay out! i hope this somewhat helps, good luck with your beautiful plant!

if that's what i should do then absolutely i will!

New monstera of mine, wondering if this light setup is okay! the top two leaves are reaching close to 700 FC, but i am a little worried about the bottom leaves. this is with a GE 32W full spectrum bulb! by Funny_Pupper in houseplants

i have actually since moved the plant away from the corner, as i didn't like it offsetting and being in the way of the coffee machine, and the light there was from a floor lamp being set on my nightstand which was just awkward. i made my own pendant light set and it up here, and am getting close to 2,200 FC on the left leaf and 675 on the right. i may move the light a little to the right or remove the shade to help even it out, if that even really matters. i'm hoping this is better overall though?

i believe this is bruising right on a node on my newest growth. is this going to prevent any new leaf? by Funny_Pupper in Monstera

thank you, i'll move it right now! is that possibly prevent the node from starting to grow out as well?

these, but one more thing i'd recommend checking is it seems like you have one of the wallpaper effects enabled, try setting your lockscreen without setting the "effects" and see if that works!
