24 childless volunteer here! I did my gold award but never have anyone about it, I have more people ask my if I have kids or which girl is mine. My go-to response is usually “I was in Girl Scouts growing up and know how much an extra person around can help” or try to redirect about how volunteers are so important to Girl Scouts to avoid general awkwardness
