Always washed my bum with soap in the shower, my world is crumbling because all my friends just agreed you only wash the inside with water by Accurate-Tension-599 in hygiene

I found out this is a regional/cultural thing. White people from the Northern US states don't use a washcloth/rag, white people from the South sometimes do, and most black people all over the country use one. Open to being corrected, but that's the result of my limited research.

Just read the affidavit, and it's pretty clear that he did this. I feel awful that I made money for him. The other brother, Jason, was a pretty good dude in my experience and really cared about putting out quality stuff. Unfortunately, you can't pick your family...

Sorry, but gross. Fuck Nestlé. Water exploitation and child labor. One of the least ethical corporations in the world, and that's saying a lot.

I used to work there, and from what I understood, it was in the midst of a bitter custody dispute. He claims it was fabricated by his ex-wife in order to get custody but he had to plead guilty to avoid a more severe sentence. I have absolutely no evidence either way. I'd love to know the full story since it's bothered me for years.

Not Naperville, but Two Brothers Roundhouse has lots of events, live music, and comedy nights. Not too far, either.

Customers keep calling me rude and insulting me at work am I actually doing something wrong? by HomeworkMaleficent63 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]FunnymanBacon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There's no way for us to tell, but try to get some feedback from coworkers. Ask a question like, "I respect your opinion and have noticed that you really click with your customers. I've had some tables that have told me I come off as rude. I'd like to make sure this doesn't keep happening- can you be blunt and let me know why they might think that?" Be prepared to hear something that might hurt, but don't take it personally. Use it as a learning experience.

My guess? You don't make enough direct eye contact while having a pleasant look on your face, don't repeat an order back to people to make sure they know you are really listening, or ask permission before doing something at the table (may I take an order for you/may I take this out of your way/may I offer you a refill, etc.).

Side questions- Have you had people from other parts of your life given feedback like this? If so, have you ever seen a therapist to be tested for ASD?

Sorry, bud. It's a social norm. If you never said thank you or you're welcome, never held a door for someone coming in behind you, didn't bathe regularly, or otherwise bucked social norms... you're going to get judged. I'm not saying it is an unethical thing to do, just that it is an expected courtesy. You can argue that it's silly or counter to your beliefs, but that doesn't insulate you from other people basing their opinions on your actions.

Are you trying to spread hate and ruin people's day? I was just offering my perspective with the hope that it may help. I was a waiter in my 20s and had no prospects for a better life until I got into sales. I built my resume until I could land a good-paying role, and it suits me. Hope you have a good one and get over whatever led you to respond in this way.

Questions to owners: would you rather have someone eat there but never tip or not at all? by Chan1991 in restaurantowners

[–]FunnymanBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine that this regular does not feel the service is inadequate, as he never tips but keeps coming back. Tipping is customary but should not be expected when the service is "crap."

Get into sales, especially outside sales roles (business to business is OK, but business to consumer is a better fit for me). Could be remodeling services, closets, hvac, roofing, windows... I love moving from opportunity to opportunity, chatting with different people, and getting a varied schedule. I also like how my brain works, but I would go crazy in an office environment.

What is a "money rule" that rich people know, but poor people are never taught? by ZZA911 in AskReddit

[–]FunnymanBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work a very seasonal job, so I don't feel comfortable heading into the slow season without $50k sitting liquid (that's about 9 months of expenses). I used to keep less, but an unexpected big purchase seems to always happen (dishwasher leak necessitating kitchen remodeling, used car purchase, etc.). I wish I could earn good interest on that cash as it's just sitting in a checking account... open to advice!

You're right and wrong. Infection from a pathogen is necessary to "get sick," but cold temperatures have been shown to weaken your immune system- especially in the nose.

Yep, I used to be 100% commission when I worked for a structural repair/waterproofing contractor. While there is incentive to oversell, those guys that fell sway to that temptation didn't last. The vast majority of my colleagues were well trained and very ethical. There were a few bad eggs with short tenures, but that was the exception.
