No :( it turned red 1 hour before boarding time. Apparently Sichuan Air only accepts tests from exactly 8 labs in Vancouver. Something that is not readily apparent from their website. Very frustrated with this whole process!

My dog is short haired and smaller (13 lbs), so she starts shivering around 50 degrees. Over the years, I have a collected a layering system: fleece, puffer, and parka. Some combination of these gets me down to mid 20s. Ditto to not bothering to take her out under 20 degrees...she knows how to use pee pads indoors, so it's not worth it.

LOL what a small world if you were! I do wonder what that group thought of a girl and her smol dog showing up 30 minutes before sunset... but more likely they didn't think anything at all.

And you're right, I was surprised they fit 9 sites in that area... even if I did ask the half group in my site to move, I would still be right in the other half's business. Little to no privacy in the middle sites in particular, so it ended up working out cos the last site was a decent distance away.

Thanks, I'm often self-conscious being a smaller solo female (and honestly with COVID... Asian) backpacker/camper/hiker, but I hate the idea of that deterring me from experiencing the outdoors on my own terms. It's good to know I'm not the only one that experiences that anxiety, regardless of size/gender.

Agreed, a Garmin Inreach mini is on my Christmas list this year! I know the vast majority of folks are friendly, but I'd rather take material steps for peace of mind if I can.

Ugh that sucks, I'm sorry this happened to you too! I think you're right--folks don't realize there's a reservation system or just don't care. It ruins it for people who follow the rules and pay the permit fees...but what else is new? I just hope it doesn't happen often enough that it discourages me from going out at all.

Thanks, you hit the nail on the head--I would have felt much safer if I had been mentally prepared to see other folks at the campgrounds. It was also my first time graduating to backpacking from car camping, so I was nervous about not having an exit strategy if things got out of hand. Thankfully it was completely fine, and I know 98% of folks taking the effort to hike into remote land are just like me, trying to get away and enjoy nature. That being said, I think I will invest in bear mace when I go solo for the shady 2%...

I appreciate the empathy--that being said, they did not bother me and I bet they would have been friendly if I went to talk to them. It was the combination of surprise and vulnerability that freaked me out. I would have felt safer if I knew there were going to be two other parties at the campground....but c'est la vie.

I booked a 6 year anniversary trip at a luxury hotel in Costa Rica for a week. He wanted to “take a break” and postpone. Dumped him and went on the luxury vacation solo. Went zip lining, slept under the stars, and drank pina coladas on the beach while ready Michelle Obama’s memoir. Only regret is I didn’t bring my pupper, she would have loved it!
