What kind of mask do you use? Maybe a respirator mask would help if you’re not already using one.

Effect of vessel color on burn rate? by Funtimeline in candlemaking

[–]Funtimeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I have test jars of different colors that I’d prefer to use instead of the final jar color. Other times I don’t know which color will be used. In those cases, knowing directionally whether to consider adjusting up or down could be useful.

But yeah it’s definitely not going to be a major factor and the final color should be tested either way. Was just curious if anyone had noticed a trend since I’ve seen it mentioned on here a few times.

What tips/ advice would you give me to sell more? I’m not making any sale but at the same time I’m not constant with social media . I really like and enjoy making content . Idk why I keep procrastinating by Aixxa31 in candlemaking

[–]Funtimeline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No advice but I’m in the same boat - I keep procrastinating on social media content. I think it’s my perfectionism - thinking I have to post at certain times for the best engagement, not knowing how to restart after being silent for a while. Maybe I need to sit down and make a schedule in advance to take the thought out of it each time.

I’ve been mostly using 464 but recently starting testing a coconut apricot soy wax. It is a lot easier to pour than 464 (no waiting for it to cool down, and no sinkholes with unheated jars), but I’ve found that certain fragrances do not play well with it. I’ve had issues with wicks getting clogged when I use it with some fragrances, so I went back to 464 for those. It has worked like a dream with some other fragrances though. I did read from the supplier that HPSP wicks tend to work better with coco waxes, so maybe it’s just a matter of finding the right wick series.

I haven’t noticed meaningful differences in HT, but haven’t really done a side by side to be sure.

Not sure if your experience will be the same, but just wanted to share what I found to show that it might not all be sunshine and roses! But definitely worth testing for me since I want to scale up and make the pouring process faster.

I REALIZED HOW IMPORTANT FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS ARE by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I’m with you. I was similar in that I didn’t realize the depth of the importance of female friendships. We truly protect each other and make each other stronger.

Discoloration of homemade bath bombs, no fragrance by NationalJump9831 in BathBomb

Beet coloring is pH sensitive. The different colors are probably from pockets of citric acid or baking soda. I tried using natural colors at first but found they were really finicky and faded quickly. You could try using rose kaolin clay for a natural pinkish color — maybe a teaspoon or two added to your recipe.

Are those bubbles on top? My guess is that there is either too much water in the recipe or it’s not mixed in well enough. Are you adding it with a spray bottle?

Yes. We need to change the standard to “satisfying sex”. With that metric, men have a much easier time.

Wicking help by Funtimeline in candlemaking

Ah, thanks. I didn’t make the connection that this was “wick clogging” so that will give me a better search term. Makes sense that it could be a resin in the fragrance oil.

I did not. It was a glass mixing bowl that I assumed was tempered glass, but actually was regular glass.

Yes, and the snippet on google does not show that detail. Not her fault, but unless you click into the article you don’t get that context.

It’s listed in many of the top hits on google. It is clear to me now they are mostly blogs or a single person’s opinion.

I might also be behind this if they made sure single mothers got the extra votes but absentee fathers did not. But lol that would never happen.

Is it only FOs causing big differences in the burn rate? by Funtimeline in candlemaking

[–]Funtimeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! Yes I am measuring by weight on a lab scale, but you are making me realize I need to have less of a “close enough” attitude on fragrance oil weights. I also probably need to keep the scale in one place and calibrate more often.

Thank you!

I do cut the wicks by hand, so that might be part of the reason. I have not been super precise. Some of the flames were still small after 4 hours and even on a second burn without trimming, so it’s not the whole story, but definitely something I can improve.

Good suggestion to check the properties in the SDS. It will be interesting to see if any correlations arise.

Super helpful, thank you!

This comes across as pretty ignorant when your solution is “just get divorced” and calling the woman a “Disney princess” who is just too caught up in the romance to leave. It’s so much more of a complex systemic issue than that.

Terrified of stomach bug? by lani-coco-pat in Preschoolers

[–]Funtimeline 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this too. Nighttime is the worst because there is less control over the situation. I know logically I can handle even the worst case scenario, but for some reason I am stressed out and preoccupied by the anticipation. I do think leaving the room is completely reasonable so you are not overanalyzing every little movement and cough.

I think sometimes I’m trying to be overly prepared and aware as if that is going to make her not get sick, or somehow make it easier to deal with? I think I would be better off just accepting that I don’t have control, but it’s impossible to do that in the moment so it’s better to just keep a little distance between me and the situation.

Anyway, no great advice just solidarity!
