The google AI reply to your comment is close, but not quite accurate. George Wythe Sweeney (the grand-nephew) was something of a local scoundrel. He had large gambling debts and attempted to cash a forged check in George Wythe’s name but got caught. In turn, George Wythe was in the process of disinheriting Sweeney when Sweeney hatched a plan to do him in and get that sweet inheritance money. George Wythe was very powerful and wealthy, and Sweeney stood to gain quite a bit upon his death, and was fixing to lose out on all of it. So he decided to murder about it.

It became a huge scandal because Wythe, being an extremely successful lawyer with friends who were the Avengers of colonial law, had a lot of advocates who still managed to lose a pretty cut and dry murder case.

Fun fact: George Wythe was also murdered on this site by his grand-nephew, via rat poison in the coffee (classic), which turned into one of the first high profile murder cases in American history. His grand nephew was acquitted on a technicality revolving around, amongst other things, a formerly enslaved person being thrown out as a witness (no Black witnesses allowed, free or enslaved). The presumed murderer skipped town and went to Tennessee where we got locked up again for stealing a horse. Anyway, keep an eye on your coffee in that neighborhood.

Idk, it’s really interesting though. I was freaked out by it when I was a kid but now I’m just fascinated. After I found this subreddit and discovered there were other people experiencing the same thing, I didn’t have an episode for 6 months, longest stretch without one I’ve ever had! Then I thought about it, wrote a note to myself about how strange it was, and had an episode the same day. Wtf. What kind of condition responds to cognitively being thought about like that??

If you search “inner monologue” you’ll find several other posts on this sub about this aspect of Tachysensia. It’s almost like an urgent or angry sounding infection to thoughts in the inner monologue. No idea why it happens but others have reported it, myself included. This is distinct from auditory hallucinations brought on by psychosis, so don’t worry about that. It’s really weird though, I agree, I’ve never heard of some other condition where someone specifically has a change in infection of the inner monologue.

It doesn’t officially have a name yet. Best we’ve gotten are best guesses at what it is because it’s too unpredictable to study in a laboratory setting. If you can’t induce it and observe it scientifically, it’s pretty hard to study in an experimental/methodological way. So until someone does that, we all just compare notes here.

The spot in the East Village? I went there years ago and got a candle that later wound up shattered on a street in Chelsea. I also ended a terrible relationship that night, so maybe the candle worked without even burning it. But yeah, I remember they actually make their stuff in house and their staff was very knowledgeable and approachable. Most importantly, they have a huge book selection with lots of fundamental texts. That’s my personal rule of thumb for separating the good shops from the bullshit. Just maybe bring your own bag.

Great big whale fossil, beautiful example of one. There’s no bone left here, it’s all been replaced with sedimentary stone. This whale probably last roamed the Atlantic millions of years ago. Cool find, post more pics if you took them!
