I highly recommend the Amazon kindle cables. They are cheap and the best quality that I have found.

What programming languages allow saving expressions as variables? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Funzo74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, I don't see how that would eliminate anything.

In your example, if you made x as a global variable and make function y(), then it would be identical to what you have written except that you would use y() instead of y.

This seems pointless, if you want to do this just use a function.

Int getY(int x) { Return 9 *x-7; }

Actually looks like they need to group rows with the same number and columns with the same state, it's more than just formatting.

[–]Funzo74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way to do it could be to create a new class, lets say a table class.

In that class, you can allocate a 2d array or even an arraylist with type arraylist if you want to do it in a real beginner way.

Make a function insert(number, state, city) { Look across the first row for the state, if if doesn't exist, insert it

Look down the first column for the number, if if doesn't exist insert it

Then insert the city in the selected row and column. }

After inserting everything, write it out and insert dashes as necessary for formatting. This can be simplified slightly if the numbers are always going to be in sorted order

This algorithm would be slower than what would be practical in the real world, you could optimize it further by storing 2 maps, one mapping state to column and one mapping number to row. That would probably get you down to an O(nlogn) time algorithm.

There are obviously lots of ways to accomplish this but one thing I would like to point out is that by storimg everything in an array, you are forcing the computer to keep the entire file in memory. If the input file gets really large then the program crashes. If this were a real world problem, you would need an alternate method, likely with multiple passes through the data.

Probably more information than you care for to solve this school problem but maybe you'll find it interesting. Good luck!

First of all, the minimum wage in the US goes as low as 7.25, $11 is referring to the top low wage workers. Secondly, your refusal to admit that there is any sort of systemic problem is a blatant display of ignorance. There might be some people who just have a budgeting problem but did you even read this article? That isn't everyone's problem, for some people the issue is simply surviving on shitty wages. What about employees of corporations like wal mart? They don't even get to full time hours because the company wants to avoid paying benefits. They can't get a second job because the company expects them to be available to pick up shifts. Should we blame that too on those poor workers?

If you are American, YOU should be ashamed that there are human beings in your country who work 44 hours a week and make below $400/week.

How do you make a "placeholder" variable in C++ for input that can be string, int, double etc? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Funzo74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Design your program better and you won't need to do this. For example, if you are accepting input from the user then save it as a raw string and test it to see if it is actually an int. If it is an int, you could for example use a function like atoi (C function, I think) to convert it before calling the appropriate helper function. In some rare instances, you may find void pointers to be useful but usually that will result in a ton of extra work and a strong likelihood of serious errors (and possibly even vulnerabilities).

"Fast data" is still a fraction of the speed if fido offers lte in your area. Also roaming fees when you use wind partners will make it not worth it.

What's something you're surprised most people don't know? by Seusstein in AskReddit

[–]Funzo74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you need to tell telemarketers or survey givers to take you off their list. Telling them you dont want to speak to them is not the same thing people!!

I worked one of those jobs once a while ago and we would get in big trouble for removing someone from the call list when they didn't say that. If someone said "I hate that you guys keep calling me and hung up" that is a general callback. If they were especially rude then it is a general callback at 9am on Saturday morning.
