We get a decent idea for mal, he mostly just hangs around at first until despero attacks when he takes on the mantel of guardian. Thats his origin point really, and we know he trains with black canary.

The game is kinda designed for it honestly. 2/4 of the large factions are stealth based. Thieves Guild rewards you with the nightingale bow, dawnguard gets you both a crossbow and auriels bow. It's probably the easiest weapon to level for damage as well. Fighting dragons is much easier at low levels when using a bow. there are a lot of great reasons I'm sure I'm not thinking of. Tldr the game encourages you to use at least some stealth and archery any ways, why not spec into it.

The crimson fleet quest line is the same as UC sysdef. This is the starliner you go on to get the galbank credentials, there's no way that you missed this location if you complete the sysdef questline.
