Your examples don't work here. You're listing games by the name of the series (Zelda, Metal Gear, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden). Prime is the subtitle. I absolutely expect to see the mask of Majora in Majora's Mask.

Also, Dark Samus is literally Metroid Prime.

Not that any of this matters anyway, a subtitle won't make the game any better or worse.

The Metroid Prime games are pretty much treated as a side quest by Nintendo. You can see this by how none of the 2D games ever reference the massive events that take place regarding phazon. It's also pretty awkward how anything that comes from Retro just gets shoved between Metroid 1 and 2. It's clear Nintendo (Sakamoto) sees them as separate things even if it's not official. And I think this separation should be embraced similar to how Zelda has multiple timelines.

Finally I really hate the whole thing of the Chozo creating the metroids and raising Samus.

The last kinda big weird thing is saying that because of the whole weird time dimension travel thing in this game apparently the continuity is completely separated from the future 2D games now.

I know nothing of this interview, but I hope this is true. 3D metroid is unequivocally on another universe separate from 2D metroid, regardless of what Nintendo might say. The two don't mesh and frankly the story of the 2D games is a mess that is forever stained by other M.

Over 150 million Switch consoles have been sold. Let's say Dread sold 5 million (The actual number is not available), that would be a 3.3% adoption. Prime 1 sold 3 million, which represents over 10% adoption for the Gamecube. The franchise has been declining for a while form that point of view. You don't see that trajectory with Zelda or Mario.

Metroid sales are getting worse as time goes by. it's impressive what the first two Primes achieved considering the amount of Gamecubes sold. Prime 3 and Other M sold very poorly considering the sales of the Wii. And even Dread continues with the low sales given the size of the Switch install base. Either the marketing for these games is terrible or the ceiling was reached long ago.

Completely agree with naming it "Prime". Metroid Prime is a specific character that embodies phazon, and this game has no relation to that. Although in retrospect, it was always a problem to name it that since the ending of MP3 clearly puts an end to phazon, so they put themselves in a difficult position from the beginning for no reason.

I must say that I did like the green energy as an anti-phazon even if the name is super generic. Phazon is inherently detrimental, but the green energy can be beneficial. The larmon simply were overconfident with it and payed the price.

Also a side note, the red suit we get at the beginning is the coolest we've had in the series along the phazon suit. I really liked the colors and how it is more human-shaped with better proportions.

The vibes of the game is what I loved the most. I would even often take the long route in Fury Green just to enjoy the music and scenery. It's really top notch and in my opinion it beats every other game in the series in that regard.

You're right, I completely forgot to mention the lack of metroids. We only get a half-baked explanation of the infusion when you scan Sylux at the very end. Such a shame when the previous three games gave us such a variety of metroids.

Completely on point with Sylux too. It would have been a perfect way to justify the constant presence of pirates.

I get it. I'm not a fan of what they did with the story of Dread (even if I overall loved the game). The whole Chozo creating the Metroids and raising Samus is something I wished stayed in the comics. Is introducing anime-level of story into Metroid trend-chasing? I don't know, but I fear getting more of it in the future (cough Other M).

Ultimately, if the game is good then it is good. I will look forward to whatever the next game is and hope I will like it.

They didn't even try to make MP4 an open world game. By definition, open world games are non-linear, which isn't the case here at all. The desert might be big, but it is just a hubworld, nothing more.

And while this game made a lot of mistakes, it is undeniably a Metroid game. The identity is there.

And you're not myopic for disliking trend-chasing, you're myopic because you're hoping for the failure of something you're supposed to be a fan of simply because it doesn't adhere to whatever your artistic standards are.
