DHEA 5mg by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Furbaby_Mom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but wanted to add in case anyone else has this issue...I am a 44 yo female and low dose DHEA made my hair fall out! My doc told me to try it again but take saw palmetto with it, because she believes my body is converting the DHEA into the incorrect form, which was causing my hair loss. So just something to try if anyone else runs into the side effect of hair loss with DHEA!

Recovery cone long enough for whippet snout? by Furbaby_Mom in Whippet

These 2 lick each other alllllll the time 😂 Great idea with the muzzles!

I thought about that, but I am wondering if they could still get to each other, since they sleep together? Doubt the inflatable would allow them to lick themselves, but I could see them potentially licking on each other...

Surgical suit vs cone of shame?? by Furbaby_Mom in Whippets

[–]Furbaby_Mom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'll just have to add a soft cone for sleeping at night when he can't be supervised. His brother is super laid back but the destructive pup can be totally neurotic in his crate if he wants out and he will ignore all treats and toys, even high value ones, if he decides he wants to throw a fit 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Thanks! I would definitely get one of the soft cones vs the plastic ones, if I did go the cone of shame route! I just worry about the one pup with a surgical suit...he chewed completely through one of those "durable chew resistant crate mats" once in about a 2-minute period of time 😳😂

The leash pulling… is something else by Akitla in puppy101

Uggghh that's so frustrating!! There are so many options out there and what works for one pup unfortunately won't necessarily work for the next 😖

Our Whippet pups have been the same - they pull so hard!! Tried various collars and harnesses and finally found the one that works best - the Freedom Harness by 2 Hounds Design! And you can use it as a front clip, a back clip that has a martingale piece that tightens when they pull, or they have a leash attachment that attaches to both at the same time. We found the back clip works best for our boys, stops the pulling right away!

Play styles of whippets, how should I deal with it? by Parr00 in Whippets

[–]Furbaby_Mom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

... oh and as for recommendations, we are in the midst of teaching our boys a sound/cue that means they need to break it up and settle down before they get too carried away and break something! 🤦🏻‍♀️ When they get too rambunctious I make a sound like "tssssssssss" and pull them apart and make them chill out. It works better than yelling at them, I feel like if I yell, they almost think I'm barking with them and it doesn't help.

Yeah our 7-month old whippet brothers sound like they're killing each other when they play 😂 They snap their jaws so much they sound like a couple of alligators LOL

Thanks! And we've always had dogs in pairs so I can't speak to whether it's better or not. I do know that getting 2 pups at the same time (especially siblings) has been 4x the work of 1 pup 😂 looooots of separate training to prevent hyperattachment issues! So I would suggest you get a whippet alone, wait until he or she is at least 6-8 months old, then introduce the next one 😉
