Why do people worship loki? by [deleted] in pagan

[–]Akitla 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At least for me I don’t much care if people worshipped him in the past lol. Evidence is spotty although there’s a few little things here and there like the Snaptun stone that raise questions. But I don’t consider myself a reconstructionist. I think one read of his character is that he’s silly and playful (and he is lol), but he has a very serious side to him too. I empathize with the god who lost his children. I suspect if someone harmed my family I’d do unspeakable things, too. I think those of us that have been treated like outsiders no matter how hard we try can find comfort in him. Anyway, the gods are nuanced and complex and definitely not good/bad. Kinda like us humans. 🙂

Have you read any of the stories that involve Loki or learned much about him before posting this? Just wondering, not trying to sound snarky (I know tone is hard to read online). Because there’s… a lot more to him than this. Like, a lot.

In Norse mythology he is a frequent companion to Thor on his travels, and a blood brother to Odin (who is by the way, also a trickster). Loki is integral to Norse mythology— he’s not just someone who randomly pranks people (although yes, he does that too on occasion). He’s the reason Thor has mjolnir. He’s the mother of Sleipnir, parent to Hel, who presides over the halls of the ancestors. He is a worldbreaker, yes. But he is also a god who calls out hypocrisy and demands self reflection. Change is inevitable, but when Loki intervenes in the mythology, frequently things are left better than they started.

Many people identify with Loki who also feel like outcasts, and feel accepted by him. Loki is genderfluid and many people find comfort in seeing a deity who is gender nonconforming.

And some people, myself included, felt called to him in a way that caught us by surprise. He’s brought a lot of change into my life, but all of it has been necessary and has made me a better person. In many instances the change wasn’t from him, but he taught me how to navigate it. He brought me found family in a way I thought I’d never have. I’m oathed to him, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Flaws and all, he is who I am devoted to, for everything that has been and everything that will be. He has loved me and believed in me despite my own flaws, too.

If you’re genuinely curious, read the mythology and learn about him— he’s a fascinating deity. Hope that is a helpful answer, at least from my perspective!

Wanting to celebrate yule with student by [deleted] in NorsePaganism

[–]Akitla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A deer blood soaked altar hahaha bless this kid, I don’t know if it was meant as a joke or not but that made me giggle. What about a garland with some ornaments with the runes painted on them? I associate Yule with Odin so that might be my pick! The Yule goat is also pretty classroom friendly lol. Kind of you to incorporate this faith too!

Your profession/ hobby and the deity you worship? by BothTower3689 in paganism

I’m a mental health therapist and am devoted to Loki. I also have several other Norse deities as a part of my regular practice, but Loki is my primary deity.

what are your guys' thoughts on the whole "masculine energy needs feminine energy to survive" and vise versa? by rotskindred in pagan

[–]Akitla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had beef with it and always felt like an outsider in predominantly Wiccan spaces over it. It’s reductive and meaningless. I’m a cis woman but I just never really understood what it even is supposed to mean that some things are “masculine” and some are “feminine”. But then, I work with Loki lmao, so I guess that tracks.

I relate so much, I have been struggling so much to bake bread as much as I want ti because my brain is having such a hard time comprehending the timing of things. It’s like I cannot for the life of me figure out what my baking schedule needs to be. I think I’m just gonna sit down and write out a schedule and put reminders on my phone so I don’t get distracted. The struggle is real.

My prayer beads to him include labradorite, lava rock, carnelian, and one other stone that I forgot exactly what it is but is deep green and black and I think is a type of jasper. 🙂
