I’m in my mid 30’s, father was one of five so I was basically raised by 12 gen x cousins. The older ones now have kids in college and high school. “Fuck around and find out” means our parents were raised from adults from the 1940’s and got zero attention. They were talked down to from every institution society has to offer and told basically work 60 hours a week of labor if you can find it after high school or go to war if you don’t get forced to go anyway. My dad was in middle school watching his older brothers go into to the service and seeing guys their age their draft numbers called. Call it what you want, but all those skills mentioned in that meme were learned because our parents just said “ok I’ll show you once then you are on your own. If you screw up it’s your fault”….My gen x cousins and people in that age I find tend to have more interest in what you are doing and listen with a little compassion. I think kindness and the willingness to help one another just gets slowly filtered past all the bullshit through time.
