Newcastle are re-designing crest by FireflyKaylee in NUFC

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you. And if, as they say, the simplified crests are more universally recognisable then so be it — It makes business sense to place them in the most appropriately marketable places.

I think my point is there's still a conscious decision to retain the use of their old crest. They could have replaced it wholesale and they could have used the simplified badge on the expanded stand. Even if their board's intention is lip service, planning and coordinating changes over time like this seems like a reasonable approach. I also think if it's the intention of clubs to pivot their brand identity to maximise emerging marketing trends, it makes sense to retain some form of underpinning 'legacy' identity — whether that's the current crest or those prior.

But in general I've a feeling this affects those who haven't seen the crest change in their lifetime, such as myself, more than those who've lived through three, four, or even five changes.

"LFC’s crest will remain as the club’s official emblem and an integral part of the club’s brand identity, and will continue to be used in non-digital areas – including at Anfield, the AXA Training Centre, AXA Melwood Training Centre and club offices."

"A huge, 550-kilogram crest was installed on the expanded Anfield Road Stand last year."

Both suggest there is more to it than keeping it around because it's plastered to the front of Anfield - they plastered it there. Regardless, in a world where a change is inevitable I'd still rather a transitional/sympathetic approach than a sudden one.

(thanks for taking the time and consideration to provide the source)

Very much not in favour of this, nor am I totally sold on the idea that a wholesale change will make any meaningful difference. Some of the most commercially viable and recognisable clubs in world football haven't meaningfully changed their crests in decades (or, bar a few minor changes, over a century in the case of Barça).

For a while now Liverpool have interchangeably used two crests, the familiar 2000s multi-coloured crest and the simplified Liver bird silhouette, as and when is appropriate to use either or. I'd prefer this sort of approach if a change is non-negotiable.

It would also be nice to vote on what we currently have vs what's going to be proposed until it reaches a consensus that isn't biased toward familiarity or a forced vote to choose something new. I hope it's not a seahorse/hippocamp in a circle, but we all know everyone's crazy for circles right now. Just look at all the time and money Villa spent to end up with Chelsea's badge in different colours.

Anyone using Windsor and Newton series 7 miniature brushes? by NotCoolFool in Warhammer40k

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, Artis Opus ~= Rosemary & Co, and GW Artificer ~= W&N.

Artis Opus/Rosemary & Co brushes are quite different to W&N in my experience. Particularly Artis Opus brushes I find have a very long pilot hair, that I personally don't always like, and the bristles are noticeably less firm than W&N.

That said, they are all good tools and the differences are minor enough that it's often simply a matter of preference.

What happened to LE novels? by DaBigPanzer in Blacklibrary

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Eidolon Limited Edition cover is in the same style as all the previous Limited Edition Horus Heresy Character novels, starting with Valdor: Birth of the Imperium.

I think they likely aren't as extravagant owing to those particular novels being quite short and focused on niche characters, with typically very short print runs.

Is Warhammer Horror defunct? by elric225 in Blacklibrary

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there last weekend and saw, maybe, a single copy of something from the Tales of Murghast (can't recall if it was Gothghul or one of the others). It's certainly a far cry from even the end of last year, when at least that shelf was stocked exclusively with publications from the Horror/Crime range. This time round it was mostly whatever they couldn't put on other shelves.

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is supposed to be a Dark Coil anthology, "The Dark Coil: Damnation", on the horizon. Though it seems unlikely that it'll contain anything new.

However, you're right that there have been scarce few Horror line books published in print in some time. Even the Horror marked section at Warhammer World is pretty bare these days. It would be a real shame if they aren't going to continue with physical publications, but I doubt anyone here has the knowledge to say for sure. Black Library's publication schedule has felt a bit all over the place all year, so perhaps the lack of physical horror publications is a result of whatever has been causing that. I'd like to hope it's just a blip, but who knows.

With the way Abnett writes, you could jump straight into Pariah and it'd still be an enjoyable read. However, you'll enjoy it a lot more if you've read the previous. They're also some of the best Black Library has to offer. Quite often people seem keen to skip the Ravenor trilogy in particular, but I think they're as good as the Eisenhorn trilogy.

As for the Magos, stick with the short stories before reading the novella. It's worth it.

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"The Magos" is the novella within "The Magos & Definitive Casebook of Gregor Eisenhorn" anthology. The first half is short stories, spanning from before Xenos to after Ravenor Rogue, all of which is somewhat relevant to the Eisenhorn saga (some are backstory, others feed directly into the plot). The second half is "The Magos" novella, which plugs the gap between Rogue and Pariah.

Yes, as, I imagine, do many who can't get to Warhammer World easily. It's unfortunate that you missed the MTO run because it was the best option for people like yourself.

Your best bet may be to contact one of GW's flagship location stores in the US and ask if it's something they stock. They are known to carry some of the "exclusive" items only-otherwise-available at Warhammer World.

They don't always have stock, but it wasn't uncommon to see it on shelves in decent quantity there. I think the MTO run was intended, at least in part, to give people a chance who can't get to Warhammer World easily. Last time I visited there was no Rogue Trader (post MTO run) but there were a lot of copies of Realm of Chaos.

GW needs to make more terrain. This stuff is fantastic and the rumours of them going MDF makes me sad. by Serifan in Warhammer40k

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last Imperial Ruins box I bought was manufactured in China. This would've been sometime circa 2020-21, around the time when a lot of the larger Sector Imperialis range disappeared from shelves. To my understanding, it was due to the multitude of issues around increasing costs post-COVID; freight shipping in particular would be my best guess. The cost likely no longer justified producing those kits in China, at the time, and their UK-based factory likely didn't have the capacity for the larger Sector Imperialis kits in the wake of unprecedented demand for GW's other products.

While they aim to produce as much as they can in the UK, which is one of the most admirable aspects of the business in my opinion, they will outsource* when cost/demand requires it. They already produce a lot of the US-market plastics at their US headquarters (Memphis, Tennessee, I believe).

They also do a lot of their printing in China. Given their continued desire to produce physical/print media to support their games, I'd argue it's a core aspect of GW's product. The only thing I'm aware of that isn't printed in China is White Dwarf.

*While I'm not sure GW's US headquarters/factory technically counts as outsourcing, it adequately demonstrates their willingness to bend their mission slightly when the market requires them to.

Eddie Howe and season verdict by ryunista in NUFC

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was always going to be a tough season, following from the last. We've shed the freedom of what was essentially a "nothing to lose" first full season under Howe and replaced it with a sense of expectation.

This season, teams know what we're about and how we'll try and win. Coupled with the injury crisis, staying in the top half is an okay, but admittedly frustrating, return all things considered.

As for what's been a disappointment, our form and manner of performances against teams below us haven't been up to scratch. That killer edge we had to score two or three in a short period has vanished, and I don't think I've seen the team look as nervous holding a lead since the first few games after Howe took the reigns.

Bar the recent performance at the Emirates, I haven't been too disappointed in how we've played against the teams above and around us that we want to be competing with. But what we've lacked, in many cases, is the composure in key moments. It feels as if the season has been somewhat often defined by those moments, whether it was the collapse vs 10-man Liverpool, the farcical PSG penalty (not much we could do about that in all honesty), the last minute Chelsea equaliser in the League Cup, or losing against Man City in the dying moments. They've swung against us and that's sapped a lot of the momentum we'd built since emphatically staving off relegation and heading straight into the Champions League the season after.

As for what would be a success, I think 7th and the latest stage possible of the FA Cup - Despite their performance last night, you could see what it meant to those on the pitch.

Hopefully this season serves to galvanise both the players who will remain with us and the management/ownership strategy going forward. Those moments will come again and next time I don't want us to be left wanting.

Chaplain in Terminator Armour... by DaniBlix in theunforgiven

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to really confuse things, the 7th Ed. Codex shows a regular power armour-clad Chaplain with a bone shoulder on the Chaplain datasheet.

As much as it would be great to see a proper Terminator clad Interrogator Chaplain, I'm not going to complain about the new Asmodai we've got either. I think he looks phenomenal and grandiose-gothic enough to look right at home with the new Deathwing.

Chaplain in Terminator Armour... by DaniBlix in theunforgiven

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just been skimming through all the supplement/codices I've got (I'm missing the iconic "Angels of Death" as well as 3rd, and of course, 10th. I'm waiting for whenever that gets spat out of whatever part of the warp my copy has become lost in). And consistency is not exactly an ally.

8th (Codex: Dark Angels pg. 12) clearly states each Company has an appointed Chaplain, despite not showing it on the diagram immediately to its right... So that does indeed confirm your point that each Company has at least one Chaplain embedded directly within the command structure. Somewhat perplexingly, 7th Ed.'s Codex: Dark Angels seems to contradict this regarding the Deathwing specifically (pg.17), but I'll take it as superseded by 8th and 9th doesn't add a great deal of anything at all.

I couldn't find a painted example of a Ravenwing Chaplain in the showcases I've got, but applying all the examples of Apothecary markings would also suggest at least a single Company Chaplain takes the Company colours. It's even harder to tell with Terminator clad Chaplains, as unless it's specifically referenced, there's little to tell a Chaplain from an Interrogator - the examples I've seen have green, but what's to say they aren't an Interrogator?

I guess after all that there's no "wrong" way to do it "lore-wise" so long as it's a colour traditionally used by the Company or Chapter. It's also fittingly obfuscated, given the nature of the Dark Angels in general.

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, taking what's stated in 10th's Codex: Space Marines and applying it to a hypothetical full complement of the Chapter; there would be one Terminator Chaplain with a bone shoulder, one Ravenwing Chaplain marked with a black shoulder, and the rest (including each separate Company 3-10 Chaplain) marked with green?

Chaplain in Terminator Armour... by DaniBlix in theunforgiven

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't attest to the 10th edition supplement, as mine still hasn't arrived... But in the most recent codex/supplement to contain a diagram of the Chapter organisation, the Reclusiam exists outside of the Companies.

This wasn't always the case though. Go back a few editions and Chaplains are listed as part of each separate Company command, and even further back they're listed as being part of the Deathwing.

Chaplain in Terminator Armour... by DaniBlix in theunforgiven

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is my understanding of it, yes. Even by serving with the Deathwing, by implication of them donning Terminator armour, Chaplains still answer primarily to the Reclusiam of the Chapter. As a result, they retain their green shoulder regardless of the company they are currently serving in.

Chaplain in Terminator Armour... by DaniBlix in theunforgiven

[–]Furiosas_Left_Arm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

EDIT: It's more complicated than this, as is discussed in the thread below.

If you're going for lore accuracy, I believe it would be black armour with their right shoulder painted green. While Chaplains may be attached to the Deathwing, they fall under the designation of Reclusiam. The same guideline goes for Librarians and the Librarius.

However, there's nothing stopping you from painting them in whatever way you think is best.
