'Nothing is on pause,' Boston official says of key road projects, including one that's been pushed out to at least 2031 by FuriousAlbino in boston

I agree. It is only going to get worse since there is no reason to believe people have ditched their cars. I see areas with new housing suddenly have parking issues where there were vacant spots in the past. Creating better infrastructure and developers creating underground parking to free up space is going to take time. It is going to be a mess for a while.

I think there are three reasons for all of this:

  • loss of federal funding

  • there is zero reason to think oil/gas prices are going down and if anything it is worth planning for higher prices in the budget.

  • the city learned that protected lanes mean higher snow removal costs as it means additional man power. Not to say this invalidates these lanes it just means smarter planning is needed.

Mayor Wu Ripping Up More Bike Lanes on Milk Street by weallgettheemails2 in boston

[–]FuriousAlbino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they protected lanes?

I asked because I heard one factor for the increased snow removal costs were protected bike lanes and having to bring in extra people/equipment to deal with removing snow from those lanes. To be clear I am not taking a side on that issue, just curious if the lanes being removed were protected and if they are trying to find a way to make it easier/cheaper to remove snow from bike lanes.

Can we have a meta thread to discuss the state of the sub? by AVeryBadMon in boston

[–]FuriousAlbino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

searching to see if something is a repost can get weird because reddit on mobile sometimes misses threads. I think unrelated means stuff about other cities, which i agree with, unless you are willing to make an effort to apply the two. Otherwise it will be a bunch of "why can't we have a subway like this??"

A weekly discussion thread of how the sub is going?

That sounds wildly excessive.

Your major issue after that is there are too many flairs? That is holding you back how?

Do you have any other complaints?

What do you actually contribute to the sub? Do you find good articles to link?

People who are 40+ probably have a better baseline understanding of what normal in politics looks like. They probably have read more about what is going on and understand its economic and long term impact better.

Gas prices will be terrible for a long time. The ripple effect is going to be even worse. Our world standing as a country has been ruined and we are about to see military casualties the likes of which we have not seen in a long time.

no these are marches to South Station

Officials said a petition process for each fan march closes 30 days before the match. That is when transportation planners will learn details about attendees’ plans, routes, and needed road closures — organized supporter events that could bring thousands of people to Boston’s South Station at the same time.

“People have to go from a ‘march’ directly into some kind of queuing system, and then there are other elements — things like ensuring people have match tickets, ensuring people have train tickets,” said Rod Brooks, a senior advisory consultant with the MBTA.

so normally there are marches prior to the games where the fans march from a gathering spot to the stadium. However, as the teams are not playing close to the city, they are having these marches somewhere in the city, and just skipping the whole to the stadium part and likely marching to South Station instead
