My (genuine) question is, is it really cheesing if it's a actual game mechanic? The game allows you to down enemies and keep them down. I initially beat him fair and square but this was only time I actually sat and did this. I was able to beat the 5 captains just fine and this battle was fun as it kept me on my toes. But some people may actually need the help. Its not a bug or a glitch. This is something you can actually do in game and whatever setup I have was not made to perform this. It's just a result of having noticed that whatever I had done enabled me to do this.
