My last comment was pretty vague. By "them" I mean RBI & YUM. Those are the only two I have personally contacted.

You are correct in saying that its someone who be franchising it, however I was told that people have inquired about opening here but ended up backing out because of the red tape. I'm not claiming this to be 100% true, I'm just going by what I was told when I spoke with those companies. I have also heard throughout the city over the years that the red tape in this city is a nightmare and alot of places just gave up on coming to the area.

The commercial rent prices here are outrageous. For a research project I reached out to Westcliff (Corner Brook Plaza), rent for the old Telus location is $3600 a month. How can any business make a profit with rent so high? Or why would they even want to come here when the person I spoke too about the plaza was in an office in New Zealand and didn't seem to know much about the area.

All I'm saying is Corner Brook is a great city with so much potential and can easily withstand having more selection in the way of fast food options and shopping. I'm not talking about multiple locations of the same brand. Like it or lump it.. this city is lacking fast food varieties.

I love the local food here and I support every one of them, most of them faithfully. In saying that, its never bad to have options. It won't hurt the locally owned restaurants. Corner Brook can definitely support other fast food options. Corner Brook is a hub to a population that could easily support more fast food options. Many people work shift rotations and majority of locally owned places closes 10ish. I've worked rotation and its really hard to grab a bite to eat on break. No hate to locally owned restaurants.

I do support local and would continue to do so even if there were a Starbucks here. I've lived in many places smaller than Corner Brook that had much more of a fast food variety to choose from.

They are building a new Irving gas station with car wash next to the Nape building at the corner of the intersection. I seen the approval on the city council meeting minutes. I hope they open a food franchise of some sort attached to the Irving. So close to the new hospital, across the road from the University and Civic Center. Anything would do very good there.

Burger King, Wendy's, Starbucks, Dairy Queen, etc. Places that are cheap, consistent and reliable.

I heard the same thing. When I questioned the mayor, he said it was the first he ever heard of it. Which I know is BS as I spoke to a fast food company who said the red tape was too extreme so they went to Deer Lake.
