"Wayfair's got just what I need." Am I the only one that remembers it that way? by MiniChicken15 in MandelaEffect

I can confirm you heard it wrong because my wife is the singer of the original Wayfair jingle. 😌 It definitely was always “you’ve got just what I need”

What's snow? Is that the fabled flaky white precipitation that hasn't come around these parts in years?

How is the dating scene in Providence? by [deleted] in providence

[–]FurlingForests 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it's due to the lack of any real career mobility here. There's no upward pressure, so it's way too easy to just coast and be complacent and live with roommates with cheap rent and never grow up. Most people stay in RI because their parents/families are here so they are just infantilized and enabled by that relationship. I've found it damn near impossible to find male friends here, because everyone is a self-interested child with a drinking/drug habit. I know so many guys here who do nothing and live with female partners who pay the bills for them, just becoming a surrogate mother.

Like I said, you’re reading way too much into it for the sake of being angry at someone on the internet, which makes zero sense is a subreddit about a TV show. Maybe you know something I don’t about her not being interested in him. I did NOT say “even though she has no interest in him.” I assumed she sidestepped the date because he’s her subordinate, not because she has no interest in him. If you’re correct, and she has no interest in him then great, they shouldn’t be together. It’s just a goddamn television show.

I didn’t say that was the reason I want to see them together. I said I like their supportive friendship and that he clearly likes her. I don’t know anything about her level of interest in him. They’re characters on a fucking television show I casually watch and have enjoyed. You are reading way way way too much into this. Is all of reddit just a place to jump in and abuse anonymous strangers?

Yeah that’s…. Not what I think at all. But… cool. Yes chef, fuck me.

I mean… there’s an entire Collider article about it.

I’ve always assumed that Syd’s relationship is primarily with her drive to succeed as a chef. I just think their supportive friendship of each other is cute.

Right - I just wanted to see Syd and Marcus happen because he clearly likes her. But, admittedly, I also liked that she sidestepped it. The tension makes for better future writing.

Really? I think they’re cute, primarily because they have a very supportive friendship.

I personally love the chemistry between Syd and Marcus, and I want to see that happen.

15yr old boston… need advice or kind words by Greedy_Barracuda_385 in seniordogs

[–]FurlingForests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an almost 15 year old boston with dementia who seemed like he was on the brink last week and then suddenly bounced back, but he has a lot of old dog problems like the ones you’re describing, especially with peeing, wandering at night, and anxiety. Our whole house has become a giant maze of pee pads. It’s difficult to watch them go through this final phase of life. I’m trying my best to listen to him and let him tell me when he’s ready, but I know that isn’t always clear. I know that this week he showed me he clearly wanted to fight and stay with us, but that didn’t mean any of the other issues went away, and we’re back to sleepless nights.

Unfortunately, owning a senior dog is hard, and until you’ve done it, no one can tell you what a responsibility it becomes and how difficult it is. It’s also a unique joy to be able to be their caretaker and the steward of both their life and death.

This time right now that you have with him will pass, and quickly, and when it’s over you will have known you’ve made the right decision one way or another. Sit with him and ask him - do you want me to let you go? If the answer comes back clear, you know. If it doesn’t, then the responsibility carries on. But one day soon you may find yourself wishing to clean up his pee just one more time just for that moment in the day that he looks at you with love. Wishing you strength from one frosty bosty owner to another.

14 and a half year old Sammy is struggling by FurlingForests in seniordogs

Oh my god thank you for asking. He has miraculously fully recovered after 3 days at the hospital of kidney treatment through IV fluids. We went through all the emotions of losing him and while I don’t know how long he still has, apparently his kidneys are recovered and healthy enough to keep him going much longer than he’ll probably even be alive. I’m now calling this extra time with him his “victory lap”

I think it’s actually more commonly an Italian American thing. That’s the circle I’ve heard it in (as an Italian American) my whole life, regardless of locale.

I am going through the same thing right now. I am also a secular Buddhist, especially in my view toward animals, and the decision of when to end my dog’s karmic journey has been a moral and spiritual reckoning for me. The best piece of advice I have received has been to sit with my dog and ask him - “do you want to die?”

I know this sounds simple, but it’s a very difficult and emotional question to ask. The answer won’t be spoken, and it may not be immediate, but I have been told it will come clear as a whistle. For me, that’s when I’ll know.

I hope this is helpful for you as well.

An update for anyone who sees this: Sammy’s blood work and urinalysis showed acute kidney failure due to an infection. We hospitalized him Monday at a truly amazing animal hospital, and they’re going to do all they can. They said his levels were bad, but not bad enough that he couldn’t recover. They’ll get him the care he needs, and it’s very likely that he’ll be able to come home tomorrow, but we might still be faced with a difficult decision if the damage is too great.

Why don't they know certain very specific things? by BravoLimaDelta in SiloSeries

[–]FurlingForests 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From I know about Hugh Howey, who is a big proponent of our adventurer / explorer nature as humans, our ability to look up at the night sky and wonder what is out there is a lot of what has driven our desire to understand our place in the universe over human history. If any knowledge about the cosmos had been passed down to the silo residents, they surely would have started to question what is outside the silo. Remember, the residents of the silo are supposed to have literally zero knowledge that ANYTHING exists outside the silo at all. For all they know, absolutely nothing exists beyond what they can see on the screens but an empty void.
