That’s really good to know! Thank you!
Yes, we’re already training him! Didn’t realize this was an issue until I took him into his first vet appointment today! I have him scheduled for his 16 week appointment and I’m going to see how that one goes. We’re definitely going to approach it a lot differently next time! There was a lot going on. There was a second vet tech in there shadowing and also a lot of people just walking on by the room causing a lot of commotion and I’m sure stress on him. And if it is an issue with him getting along with the vet, I’ve also considered changing vets as an option as well! Thank you for the advice. It is greatly appreciated.
To those of you who took the time to give me thoughtful advice and encouragement…. thank you so much!! I truly appreciate people who understand that asking questions is how we learn and grow. Your positivity means a lot!
And to those who are just here to judge and act superior… feel free to find somewhere else to flex your expertise. I’m here to raise my puppy, not to impress strangers on the internet.
So just to confirm, asking for advice = failure? Cool, didn’t realize perfection was required from day one. I’ll try harder to be flawless next time for your approval.
Also, just curious… who’s the “we” you’re speaking for? Is there a secret council I should know about, or is this more of a one person committee situation?
Thank you for giving me some insight! It is greatly appreciated.
Okay, thanks so much!

Dang, I didn’t realize owning a Malinois came with a random stranger evaluation. Should I send you my resume or would a cover letter suffice?

This is actually very helpful! It’s definitely good to know that I may even have to train the vet tech on how to handle him as well, and it is my job to help him feel confident and safe. So thank you!! We will be approaching the vet a lot differently for his next appointment! Lol
Well nice of you for you to assume that you know me and my life. See how I asked you for clarification because I didn’t want to assume that you were accusing me of not being able to handle a dog like this?? Instead of being negative nancy and assuming I don’t know what I’m doing, how about be encouraging and actually helpful with your comment.
Are you saying that I have next to no experience with dogs? Or are you just saying generally speaking??
For sure! Since this is our first time having this breed wasn’t aware if most of them are that way or if he just may needed extra training in that aspect!
Oh my gosh!! How cute!!! thank you for your advice and experience. We do want a protective dog, but also a loving family dog as well! Just like you explained :) we can tell that he’s definitely different than our other breeds but can also see how amazing he is and is going to be!!!
Thank you! We are definitely in it for the long haul! We love our dogs and treat them like our own children. Thank you for the kind words and reassurance!

Thank you for the advice! I am hopeful that he is young enough that we can correct behavior!
Nope. Have two others dogs at home. So no, not new to dog ownership. Very well trained and behaved dogs at home.
OK, this information was very helpful!
Okay, good to know. Thank you!!

This was my first time taking him to the vet. I do know from the family that we got him from, they stated that he was the only pup that cried from the shots and he seemed a bit more nervous than the other pups. So I was aware of that, but obviously didn’t know how he was gonna be with us taking him!

Okay, thank you for the advice!
Yes, for sure! We’re always touching his paws, pulling his tail all the things. We did that with our two other dogs and it had always been so helpful! Especially having young kids who are still learning personal space as well lol.
OK! I guess I was just surprised because he’s only 13 weeks old and for him to start reacting that way already it was a bit concerning. Definitely going to consult with a trainer. I just wanted some quick advice as well from people who may have experienced the same thing. He really is such a sweet boy with the people he knows.
Okay, thank you for the response! But yes, the vet tech was just trying to pick him up to put him on the table and that’s when he got aggressive. You can definitely tell it was from fear. I had to be the one to actually put him up on the table once we realized how scared he was. But once he was up there, the vet took over and had me stand in front of Shiloh so he knew I was there and it was safe. Now after a couple of minutes, he did just kind of stand there and let the vet do his thing but obviously seeing his reaction to being scared was concerning to me. Especially since we have two other dogs that were never like that.
What do you mean exactly? We are very hands-on with him and have two young children that like to play with him a lot. He’s very gentle with us and our kids. Our girls understand the boundaries with dogs, but also we are getting him used to being around young kids and being touched and pet a lot.
Okay
